Hi! This one has me stumped... Have been working with Polycom Viewstations for the last 3 years, and this is my first complete blackout: I have a viewstation 512 that one of my techs tried to update to version 7 from 6.5, but after the post upgrade reboot, the system just sat there after doing it's PTZ test. No display, no reassuring polycom sound byte, nothing.

Completely unconfigurable via on screen menu -- there is no on screen menu :ermm:

Tried accessing via Ethernet via old IP address, tried passing it an IP via DHCP, tried getting an IP from built DHCP. I get link state, but no luck accessing.

Does the 512 have a "console" or "serial" port for this kind of emergency? :disappoin

I've had this happen to me a few times and just cutting the power a few times has always fixed it. I'm assuming you've tried that already so you may want to see if Polycom has any documentation on it's website where you got the software from.

A thing what you can try is the following:
Hold the button in the front while booting,
and check if he receives an IP address.
Next thing: try to re-upload the software.

This may or may not be related, but usually if the unit just does the PTZ test, but you can't get in to the Boot menu by holding the button in the top of the unit down whiile you power up - try changing the power supply. As I understand it there are two element to the power supply. If one of them blow, it will allow the camera movement but will not feed enough power to run the system I've had a number of these experiences.

Sometimes, if you listen closely you can hear a slight clicking noise, coming from the codec.

we have also had boot up failures.. and continuous reboot cycles of our units solved by power supply swap outs.

you also want to look at the microphone when you power it on....if the mute light is on(red)...the system will eventually power on..if it goes out...or never comes on....you can try to get it back by disconnecting power supply, flick the switch on and off a few times, reconnect the power supply and turn it on....do not flick the switch off and on when power supply is attached...some systems take a very long time to boot when new software is loaded..especially when you delete all the old software and load the new through the soft update...and sometimes it kills them...good luck
