View Full Version : Best Software Client?

I'm looking at setting up a VC solution for me to talk to wife & kids whilst away on business. The home end is looking like a D-Link DVC-1000 purely because of the ease-of-use, but I'm a little stuck with my decision for the mobile end. I have succesfully established connectivity using a Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro, and a number of different software solutions. vPoint seems to look favourite, but e-Conf and Mirial also provide options. Given that my config is primarily an ADSL solution, I'd like to make the most of what will essentially be a 256kb connection. Any advice gratefully received...can anyone give feedback on the forthcoming vPoint-HD? It apparently provides far better quality/bandwidth than the current vPoint client.

I have not seen vPoint-HD yet, but I have used vPoint and eConf quite a bit. You should be happy with either client. With the versions I have used I find them to be quite similar. At the moment I am using eConf with a Logitech Quick Cam Pro and I am pleased with the results.

The VPoint HD using H.264 looks awesome. I worked for a short while with VCON and did quite a bit of testing of the VPoint HD over my cable modem. I was making calls at 64k that made my mouth drop at the quality.

I did have to have a somewhat high performance PC in order to take advantage of the H.264, but when you see the quality it is well worth it.
