I am having a problem with our Polycom systems – I am no longer able to access the system administration screens when accessing a camera via IP. I can still get to the camera – typing in the IP address shows the welcome screen – but when I try to sign on through Internet Explorer on my desktop, I can’t get through.

In checking with our network administrator, I found out that he had recently upgraded the firmware on our HP Procurve 5300 switches to version E.08.01. Since he had only done the upgrade at a couple of sites, we tried accessing the Polycoms using a server at another school site and I was able to login to system administration on the cameras. Well and good, but we would like to do the firmware upgrade at all sites, in which case I will not be able to remotely access the cameras at all.

There has got to be something going on between the firmware upgrade and the access needed by the cameras. Our network guru contacted HP about the problem, but they responded that they don’t know why that’s happening. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am assuming you mean that it won't accept your admin password? Also, what software version are you running on your systems?

what happens when you try it ? does it time out or reject?

I would start with checking out if you have any proxy set up and if its possible the upgrade has efected how your IE is going throug your proxy (things like bypass local addresses might have changed)

One suggestion would be, until you get the local problem fixed, to use a remote browser like anonymizer.com or nonymouse.com/anonwww.html

It will allow you to access the cameras from a different location. Just a temp.

I am assuming you have the Polycom viewstation series (NOT the EX, FX, or VS4000). I am not familiar with that switch and am not sure why an upgrade would knock things out of whack, but you may want to try hard setting the switch ports which connect your Polycoms to 10/half.

If you are running Polycom 512s, then you may want to upgrade your units to the latest version. Go to www.polycom.com for the updates. You will have to create a user account if you do not already have one.

In the latest API interface, there seem to be a management password that overide the admin screen features and capabilities is used to lock up some screens that the admin can see, possibly during the upgrade the guy clicked and disabled some of the screen. TRY using user admin and no password!!

or did he use a wrong software during upgrade?
