Does anyone know what H.243 is about? I know it is related with chair control and cascading in H.320 world. Why is this standard never mention in H.323 world?

"H423: Procedures for establishing communication between three or more audiovisual terminals using digital channels up to 2Mbit/s in multiway conferences.
Defines initiation of communications between systems and capabilities negotiation procedures in multiway conferences."

Basicly, H243 is the protocol that enables a H320 MCU call.
(H242 is used point to point). Within H243 you have functions such as Chair control and means of cascading MCUS and so on.

I Belive that in a H323 setup you use H245 instead of both H242 and H243.

That might be the reason that you don't find the H243 standard in H323.

Thanks Robert. Does H.245 also handle chair control function in H.323?

I'm no expert on the protocols, but from what I understand, that is the case.

H.245 is for H.323 what H.242/H.243 is for H.320.

But remember, these are complex protocols, they have a large sets of functions, not all of them have to be supported in a H.323 client.

Guys..and Gals,

Here is a link which describes all of the VC protocols and even some IP and Mobile protocols..

I know how it feels when you go to a meeting (especially when you work for a large Telco) and everyone is talking about H.2 this and H.2 that..so i thought id better find out what these all mean.

Have a look and keep a copy for the times when someone starts talking about protocols you know nothing about.

Hope it helps

Not a link to what you mention above but the below link is a good reference for all ITU Standardization and documentation:
