Hi all,
Can anyone offer documentation to describe how NAT for the VSX range actually works?

That is more detail than the user guides.

Cheers
Steve

Have you also looked through the administrators guide? I have a copy around here somewhere if you can’t find it on the Polycom site. If you have implementation issues I might be able to help with them as I have a 7000 working with my Linksys router at the house.

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I have the admin guide. I really want clarification of what the configuration actually does. I have a requirement for the units to have publica and private IP addresses and want to know what effect the configuration has on packets inbound and outbound to my edge routers.

Thanks

Steve

Steve,
Ok so it sounds like in the router you are mapping a public IP to the private IP on each codec, correct? If so I assume you would want to enable the NAT support, but then manually enter the external IP address that has been mapped to that specific codec. In auto mode the codec tries to detect the ip address of the router. My understanding of how this works is that when the codec is in NAT mode it sets the return address on the packet to address that is in the NAT setting. BTW I’m also assuming that you will be setting the used fixed ports option and setting up the router accordingly.
Let me know if this helps,
