I was going through the options on one of my i680's and noticed there was an expansion pack I could activate to get 12 multipoint connections. I tried calling Polycom but the sales guy knew nothing and transferred me to tech support where I was put on hold and I gave up after waiting 15 minutes. I was curious what it costs to activate this feature and if it will work with a gatekeeper so people can still dial in to listen to the audio. Also does it just do a 4 screen layout with voice activated switching?

Thanks,

Aaron

Sure! You could run either the 4 port or 12 port embedded MCU. There are a couple of things to remember...

1. Must be on the latest iPower software (6.x from the website).

2. The iPower Embedded MCU only supports H.323 calls (though, there is no limit to the speed of the call, except all sites must be at the same rate).

3. The embedded MCU DOES support People and Content for all end point (it's simulated on the same screen if you are set for single monitor).

There are a few other things but we can probably skip them right now.

As for pricing, It should look about like:

Internal 4-site multipoint option for iPower systems. Enables system to call up to 3 video sites at 768 kbps each on H.323/IP. For iPower 600, 900, 9000 running v3.1 and above. 3200-50651-001 $2,999

Internal 12-site multipoint option for iPower systems. Enables system to call up to 11 video sites at 768 kbps each on H.323/IP. For iPower 9000 Series, or iPower 600 and 900 running v5.0 and above. 3200-50651-001 $6,999

These prices are from a few months ago so check with your sales person for current pricing.

Good luck with it !
