Hi everyone,
Recently I was able to test a V500 and ran into an odd problem. Typically, I hardset the speed and duplex on the Polycom and whatever it's connected to (switch or router). When I hardset the V500 and the Cisco switch to 10 Full, 100 Full, 10 half, 100 half and placed a video call I received noticible packet loss. Only config that worked was auto on Polycom and switch. 100 Full or whatever you want from switch to router. Unfortunately when I went to install it there isn't a switch and it needs to connect directly into a cisco router ethernet port. The ethernet port has to be either 10 full or 10 half. Tried it at both and same problem with packet loss. Tried another V500 and same thing happened. I currently working with Polycom but you know how long that can take.
I'm hoping someone else has had this issue and found a work around.

that'll teach ya
don't use forced settings unless you *need* to.
Solution? use auto :)

try
int F0/0
duplex auto
speed auto
or if its a old router with no fast ethernet try
int e0
duplex auto
speed auto

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately I cannot use auto because I have to use the 10 Meg ethernet port on the router. Due to a few different factors this is the way this site has to be set up. That port on the cisco router does not have the ability to be set to auto negotiation since it is only a 10 meg port. It is by default 10 half but can be change to full. It cannot be set to auto. Hence the problem.

Cisco 1760. The fast Ethernet is used for data. Their switch is not VLAN capable so we keep the video stream separate by using the ethernet port.

We normaly run our VC equipment forced to100 Full Duplex on endpoints/Cisco switch port. Not that I have seen any problems with Polycom NIC's set to Autodetect, but that is our standard for sutch equipment (mostly VS-4000). I belive this worked fine on our first VSX-7000's when it was on software 5.1. When I upgraded to 7.0 on those, I started to notice packet-loss and there was errors counting up on the cisco ports. This ofcauce caused poor video performance at moments.
My experience with all 7.x software for V-series (also V500) is that you have to run both ends on Autodetect. If you force the endpoint to i.e. 100FD the codec report that setting , but it seems to me that it is in fact running Auto anyway. So if you have 7.x software it might work with 10Full or 10Half if you downgrade to 5.1, but I am not shure. I also noticed menu freeze in 5.1 software, escpessialy while selecting the "Address book", this problem is gone in 7.0 .
One bug fixed, one new added maby ;>)
I have reported this to Polycom through our vendor, but is anything happening ?

Polycom has a beta for VSX's that fixes the problem if you are in a hurry. Elsewise the NIC fix will probably come out in their next rev.

The MP series has a 10 base T ethernet port. The following was copied off the Polycom website. If my memory serves me correctly, it can only do half-duplex as well.
Specifications of the Ethernet ports on a ViewStation product
ViewStation 128, 512, DCP, and MP are 10 baseT
ViewStation SP, SP 384, EX, FX and VS4000 are 10/100
Sad isn't it?

I've called Polycom twice and been told the weren't aware of this problem. After I saw your post I escalated right away and now I'm waiting for them to get me the beta version.
Thank you again. I need to get these guys up and running ASAP and you're post really helped.
