Has anyone worked with this puppy yet? What do you think?

I played with it last week at the Polycom Channel Partners Conference. If you like the VSX7000, then you will certainly like the VSX3000. They are based on the same "codec" and chipsets... The main difference would be the "mini camera" that is mounted on top.
The camera has a "manual" flip down privacy feature and a limited amount of focus (what I would call tweaking)..
I'm honestly unhappy that Polycom chose to not include a dual RJ45 connector (though, the new low cost Voip phone ($180) does have it), that's about my only complaint so far.
They are playing on the theory of just one monitor on your desk (allowing you to use this monitor for videoconferencing or by pushing a button, you can then use it as your PC monitor (kinda like what the Datapoint Minx system had back in 1986 except that was CGA/EGA compatibility).
Audio was excellent (14khz siren always is) and the video quality looks very good (as the VSX7000 does)...
Time will tell but so far, I'd sure like to have one on my desk!

We had one in for trial the other day. Nice as it doubles as a PC monitor as well. I personally didn't set it up, but witnessed few IP calls on our private network (meaning bandwidth was not an issue). The picutre was HUGE!! full screen and very clear. Talk about talking heads!! The tecnician said he had some reservations, but liked the overall unit. We've since returned it to the vendor, but have budgeted to get two as soon as possible so we can "beat the crap out them"!! More to follow.

Hi dndtech,
Welcome to the forums.
Would you consider asking the tech that set it up to come here and write a quick product review? It would really help a lot of people who are considering this equipment.

George,
Will do. We only had it for a week and I was busy with other projects. I will ask the vendor for another stab as well. Several of our group were out of town and didn't get a chance to see it run. Complete analysis forthcoming. Anything in particular you wish tested?Cheers.

The news is that the VSX3000 will have people + content and multipoint.
Will the multipoint be continuous presence, (as in \all four sites on the screen at once.)
I have also found a cheap firewall traverser that can operate a secure tunnel within a fully walled environment.

dndtech,
Just the basics. Ease of use, price, any shortcomings etc. How does the change over from video to PC monitor go? Does it actually function well as a monitor? Just you overall take on the product, whether you would recommend it or not and why.

Hi im new here and this is my first post, Im from Iceland so my wording/spelling may be a strange.
I got a few questions about the VSX3000 and I hope somone has tested this.
Does anyone know how the people+content looks like?
When you are using the confernec part of the VSX 3000 are you looking at a composet rez or a SVGA rez?

I have answers on a couple of your questions. First of all the multipoint does use continuous presence. Secondly, the video comes through in XGA. The quality of this unit is superb, but my only reservation is the manual camera mounted at the top. This is a fairly flimsy design and put on an executives desk will be the first thing to break. The pricing for the IP unit is reasonable at $5000. The user interface is identical to the VSX 7000 which makes this a very simple product to use.

So the VSX 3000 has continuours presence, but the VSX 7000 doesnt? Last time I looked I thought the 7000 only had voice activated. Is this true?

The VSX7000 and the VSX3000 use the same code and neither system supports CP. Only Voice Activated Conferences (using the inbedded bridge).
