Aloha everyone!
I'm trying to successfully connect to Hong Kong (from Hawaii) via ISDN for a VTC scheduled for tomorrow afternoon HST.
Hong Kong has a Viewstation 512 and I have a VSX-7000. The problem is when Hong Kong dials me, they get 'Far End Disconnected. Site is Busy' and a busy signal. When I dial them, I get the same error.
Anybody have any tips or clues to get this call connected?
Hoping you guys can help...and fast! :)
Wasn't sure this was the right place for this post....

I would call some of the larger international bridging services and ask them to help bring the two systems together.
Usally this type of problems is related to the network-providers and what type of connection they have to the country you are dialing. Using a bridgeing service might help you, since they usally have to struggle with this kind of problems on a daily basis. If you are lucky they might tell you where the problem is, so you can get it fixed until your next conference :)
It will cost you, but to get it working with so short notice, I belive this is the way to go.

Has this ever worked ?
If so, what changed ?
If not, you might try one of the other carriers (1010222 or 1010333 or 1010288).. That might help.
Try the usual single BRI call, see if you even get ringing..
I assume both systems work fine within country ?

Are you both using the same carrier type?
commercial/FTS/gov DSN.
Are you watching the channels come up? If so are all of the channels connectged when it disconnects?

This is the first time we've tried.
I'll try PICing another carrier; good suggestion.
We don't get ringing, even with single BRI.
I know my system works fine. The other guy says his works too.

Commercial carrier (AFAIK) at least on my side. (Time Warner if you're curious).
No channels connect. We don't get that far.

Sorry, I mispoke. There is ringing, perhaps 3 or 4 rings then Disconnect.
The ball for the first channel only ever comes up 1/4 blue.
Where in my dialing string would I put the PIC code - before the 011 for international dialing or after?
And, thanks for all your help guys!

It would be something like
1010222011......
1010222(MCI)
011 (International Dailing)
Try the Polycom Test site in HongKong..
Hong Kong
System Type: ViewStation 128 (PAL)
Network Interface: BRI
Capabilities: up to 128K @ 12.5fps
Test Number: 852-2876-9466
that would be 101022201185228769466 (I believe)

Tried PICing the number...no help. Interestingly though, when I PIC 1010288 I get a Network Protocol Error instead of FarSite Busy.
I also tried Polycom's test number and i get a Call Cleared error.

Sounds like the lines aren't setup for International calling. I'd be talking with the local (and LD ) company to see if you do have LD capability.... You could even get them to trace the call (if you have enough influence)..

I've got calls in to both my line provider and my LD carrier.... So far neither has had a tech call me back.
*sigh* par for the course.
I am set up for International dialing, btw. I was able to dial a regular voice call from a handset to Hong Kong.

Ok, so you can place an Analog Voice call... That doesn't mean that you have a "digital" pathway to that same location. That has bitten me in the past, within the US.
Good Luck sir !

A quick update:
I was finally able to call Hong Kong. How did I do it? I switched my BRI lines to my TANDBERG 2500. Apparently the VSX7000 is still pretty buggy....
Hong Kong, however, was still not able to call me.

very strange - presumably HK can call other sites? What stage does it fall over when they call you?
