View Full Version : Webcast-VTC class
My VTC experiece is in academic settings. I do mostly point to point call- in one end there is a professor and in another end there are students. What I wanted to do is live webcast to professor's site so that even if students couldn't make it to class, they can hear the professor's lecture. There are expensive solution to do live web cast but I want under $1000.00 solution.
I tinkered with bluenet video server. It is small lynx based box cost around $200.00. The draw back is it could do video only without audio.
I am wondering how could I do both audio and video webcast so that I could webcast the lecture to the students who cannot make it to the class???

Hi jlu,
Welcome to VTCTalk!
Roughly how many end users are you looking at connecting and at what speed?
George,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Using bluenet video server, according to their specs, simultaneously 32 people can see video feed.
My intend solution is not for substitution for attending class. It was for busy working students to see what was being taught if they couldn't make it to the classrooms thru their laptop or desktop.
It would be even better if I could streaming it and put the video ink in coure webpage but it is expensive for me to carryout such thing.
I am aware of Torrent streaming server and others but they are expensive for me to implement.
Any smart way to accomplish what I intend to do???

Hey Kevin !!! (yeah, I know he's not in this post but I hope he hears me over in England)
You need to talk with this gentleman about the IP VCR(Ugh, should be DR) 2200 ...
jlu, We were treated to seeing (and playing with) the newest product that Codian is working on. It has the ability to record a call (even point to point... Well, sort of point to point) and play it back either by a browser or and endpoint (yes, I said endpoint). It's quite unique and seems very interesting.
Good luck!

Thanks Gary - We are certainly excited about it!
For those who have not seen it take a look at http://www.codian.com/documents/IPVCR2200-Datasheet.pdf
Feel free to ask me if you have any detailed questions...

I am also looking at webcasting a videoconference. Does anyone have any idea what the cost range looks like. I can throw a capture board in a PC and encode directly from an endpoint but after reading about codian's product, it seems like that's the best way to do it. I wonder what the price rage is.

I believe the scheduled retail price is $10,000 for the IP VCR 2210. It's pretty slick !
