I am wanting to learn more about the design end of a/v and was wondering where you guys thought a newbie could learn. I got thrown into a producing a support model for a large installation of 40 conference room and am getting more and more excited about this industry.

I have very little experience or training in a/v but am hungry to learn.

Thanks in advance for the info

James

Sounds like you already have what it takes......you are hungry. As far as learning, it sounds as if you are in the same position most of us found ourselves in when we started......getting thown into it. This forum is probably one of the best places to get started. Please let us know how we can help.

What kind of systems are you looking at putting into your rooms? Are you using video conferencing? If so, what kind of network do you plan to use? What kind of A/V components are you planning on implementing (video, audio, control systems)?

Welcome to the group.

We did a full installation of:

Tandberg 9000 Codex
Clear One x800s and xp400
Crestron xps-4500 touch panels
plasmas everywhere
wireless mics and keyboards
Extron interfaces
IPC turrets tied into the audio systems
Autopatch switcher

I have learned a lot in my one year here. I want to get into the design end of A/V for a consultant firm and would like to know where I can receive a more formal training.

I have a somewhat general knowledge of comp. networks and knew nothing about A/V before I was put into this project.

Check here: InfoComm (http://www.infocomm.org).

They have classes and certifications. I can't tell you whether they're any good or not though. Maybe you can let us know! B)
