Hi all, Before you all ride me for using the FVC product, which I know they no longer support, just understand that H.321 was the only game in town other than ISDN when we got into this biz about 5-6 years ago. Anyway, I've noticed that when using a Tandberg 2500 codec connected thru the EXTERNAL port to a Room System Access Module in a V-room(V.35) , whenever the Tandberg is set to EXTERNAL, it automatically begins ringing and trying to accept a 64K call. I know I'm stretching here, but has anyone ever come accross this? It's also happened with a Tandberg 5000 codec connected up the same way. Yes I know H.323 is here, but we have a number of legacy system on our network that are still using native ATM video.

Don’t feel bad I also still have to use the V-rooms to talk to a legacy network :) I’ve seen this problem in the past when we were first setting the system up and I believe the problem was related to the DTR setting. Now I’m using the Polycom VS4000 codecs but it seems like the problem was very similar. If that isn’t it let me know and Ill try to send you a screen shot of the settings I use in the Polycom.
Good Luck

What is the settings for EXTERNAL net on you Tandbergs?
I would guess that this is the preffered settings:
Call control: RS366 dialing
and
Network clocking: RS449/V35 Compatible.
I don't think the Tandberg can do inband dialing on X21 only RS366 dialing and V35 data.

Yes the settings are what you have listed.
As for the DTR settings, any help would be appreciated. My V-switch chops have gotten rusty. Thanks.

Ok attached to this post is a screen shot of the working settings from my Polycom VS4000. Actually now that I look at the capture it seems like maybe the problem was the DSR Answer setting. It sucks to get old
Good Luck

Thanks Tom, I'll give it a shot. I hope the Tandberg has the same V.35 type advanced menu the Polycom has. Not that familiar with the unit. As for getting old, I prefer to think of it as "growing older but not up."

Not too familiar with your setup but it may be that the codec is sensing a clock and trying to connect. You can put the settings into manual instead of RS366 and this will allow the coded not to connect until you push the connect button on the remote.

I have the same setup - Tandberg 2500 with an FVC V-Room. If the RS-449/V.35 cable is connected to the Tandberg, but is disconnected from the FVC (or the FVC is turned off), you will get the exact symptoms you are describing.

I used to see this all the time, connecting old first gen Educator systems (based on the 6000) re-seating the v.35 cable or booting the Vroom used to work..got the ringing to stop. Also..what switch and vroom code were you running?
