Hi, I am about to open a small vc service, which will connect with various clients around the world, with different connections and systems.

As I understand from this forum ISDN is still needed for reliable vtc, but more and more users move to IP.
Having both ISDN (6 lines) and SDSL will be very expensive. The question is: can I get away with having good quality SDSL (ranges from 500Mb/s and 10:1 to 2000Mb/s and 1:1) and be able to connect to remote clients with ISDN? What codec can handle this?
I really hope the answer is "no problem", but is it? :)

Basically if you want to only install the IP or ISDN connectivity then you just need to find a good site to bridge you over to the other protocols. Most of the major carriers will offer this type of service and if you want a solution that also includes the lines check out someone like Glowpoint.

Yep, Direct Visual have a service called Stratus, which offers amongst other things gateway services to IP based endpoints.

Have you taken your DSL connection yet? The only problem with IP is Quality of Service. This typically only occurs where IP traffic has to pass over internet traffic in order to get from one network to another. Stratus overcomes this problem also by offering dedicated links into our own QoS enabled networks (we partner with multiple providers). This way you get IP connectivity, with QoS, and access to gateway, MCU and also management services.

Please send me a message or e-mail if you want to discuss this any further.

Best Regards,

Glen

If you have IP only CODEC's and need to have ISDN access from time to time. You can always get a Lan Video Gateway... I happen to have a few that arent being used...PM me if your interested..

Is there a particular reason you need 6 ISDN lines? You could cut cost by only having 3 ISDN lines. I'm not sure that H.264 works over ISDN connections, but if it does you could still get 768K quality at 384K.
