I have "updated" my ViaVideoII to the Polycom PVX 6.0 for ViaVideo and have now noticed that when I launch the PVX software it is eating up my processor (78 - 98%). Funny thing is when I run it on a demo of PVX, it only uses 22-33% of the processor time. Also I notice that the software does not support H.264 with the ViaVideo. Are we supposed to throw away the ViaVideo2 and get a Connectix Quickcam? The video and audio quality is about the same... Has anyone else experienced issues with the PVX ViaVideo specific upgrade?

It was always stated that the Via Video II would NOT support H.264 with the 6.0 software. As for PC resource usage, I have just completed a call with my Via Video II and 6.0 SW and it used about 25% of my PC resources. I have never seen over 40% usage ever.

I downgraded to 5.x and it is now back to using only 12-22% of the processor. I have a two month old Dell P4, Win XP, etc... Did you purchase the 6.0 software or did you use the free update?

I downloaded the 6.0 for the Via Video. There are 2 different downloads, one is for the PVX with USB camera and one is strictly for the Via Video. Its called the Via Video Maintenance Realease 6.01 and available at the Polycom Resource Center. Make sure you got the right one.

I had used the ViaVideo upgrade, but being a glutton for punishment I re-downloaded it and upgraded. It started working this time. I can only guess it must have been a bad download on the first go-round. It is now running with 30-40% processor load.

Try to go to PVX setting --> General --> Performance and you will find 3 choices to allocate resources:
- Other aplication
- Balanced
- Polycom PVX

Also it might be helpful to disable H.264 & People+Content if you don't require them as it make more load on your PC.

last thing is to your the latest software version 6.02.

let me know if that helps!
