I recently passed the CVE exam from studying official Polycom materials, Prometric has said that in order for me to get a certificate you have to to take the training curriculum, does anybody have any info on this??? I'm not happy at all about it.

Hi
What is "supposed" to happen is when one passes the CVE test, one receives a certificate indicating same. Prometric might have changed their criteria over the years, but the original intent was that one would ONLY have to pass the test to be certified.
Have you asked to speak with someone "higher up" at Prometric?
If you have no luck there, you might want to contact someone at Polycom training for a *real* clarification.

Interesting. Anyone else heard anything on this? Could this be just a push to force people to pay for their training? After the person has already passed the test I just can't see the point making them pay to take the training. They want you to pay to train for a test you've already passed? What's wrong with that picture?

Heres the status now, after numerous attempts of trying to resolve the issue with prometric through the fullfillment@prometric.com address, I went to the testing center and had them call directly and was told that I needed to take the issue up with Polycom, I called the Polycom learning center and was told that the training was not needed for the certification and they said they would take the issue up with Prometric's managment. That was the last I have heard, its been over 2 months, still no certification and its been 6-7 days since i've heard from either company.

Thanks for the update. I was really concerned about that issue since I am thinking of studying up on my own and writing the CVE exam.

Update: Here is a recent e-mail and explanation I received 1/14, I removed the persons name just for the courtesy of not getting anyone in trouble. Its been almost 11 weeks since I took the exam.
Mr. Louder,
First let me sincerely apologize in the delay of response to your previous emails. I issue no excuse but ensure you that your concerns are being dealt with accordingly with my staff and with management at Prometric. I offer myself as escalation for you for any such concerns you may have going forward. Please know that we are working to guarantee that you are not inconvenienced going forward.
Update:
Prometric's system shows that your exam was taken and passed but is not showing certified. They have escalated this issue to their software engineers this past Monday for resolution and will communicate to me and to you with a status as soon as possible. I have asked this morning for an update.
You are a very valued client to our organization and will be treated as such. I'm sorry to start off with a bad impression and hope to show you that we are a very customer service driven department and I feel confident you will have a different opinion as we continue to work together.
Thank you for your patience and understanding with this situation.

Just to follow up on EfortySix's post, I contacted the Director of Education at Polycom and recieved the same response. I've worked with this director for a number of years and they have always been responsive for me.
This appears to be an isolated case (the only one the Director had heard of) but there is always a chance for others.
If you have any questions or issues with the CVE program, either with Polycom or Prometrics, please contact training@polycom.com .
If you don't get a response from there in a reasonable amount of time, please email me and I'll forward it on to the Director.

Is Polycom turning into Picturetel? Can the end be far away?

New news this afternoon from Prometric, the certificate is now in the mail and on its way. Like Gary had said, I believe I was a one time incident.
I hope I didn't scare anyone away from taking the Exam, that was not my intent. No matter how long you've been in the VTC industry, I'm sure there is something you'd learn from the CVE.

No worries, I received my certificate in the mail 1/22/05 and took the exam 12/29/04.

1) How and where does one subscribe to this CVE test?
2) What is the bottom line on the certification? Will I have to enroll into a class or just taking and passing the test be sufficient for CVE certification?

You can register to take the CVE exam at either Prometric or VUE testing locations. And you are not required to enroll in the CVE course to be illegible to take the CVE exam.
