Greetings everyone,

I was hired at a large government institution in the Washington DC area as a contract video editor and producer. Before relocating back to washington, I spent four years working in New York City in film production and dramatic training. Before working in NYC, I was a Quality Control engineer overseeing all the broadcast content for the four major Discovery Channel International networks.

So what am I doing here?

Well, the institution where I'm employed has been suffering from an ailing and vastly misconfigured VTC system and I made the mistake of displaying a basic aptitude for troubleshooting. Unlike every other place I've ever worked, this government institution recognizes the potential of it's employees, and I was quickly and unofficially put in charge of fixing the VTC system and procedures.

I completed a Tandberg Certification course and I will probably be attending the Accord Bridge training early next year.

I look forward to searching the posts already here, but I expect I'll be reading far more then I'll be posting. There seems to be a lot of valuable information here, and as a complete and total newbie, I'm in way over my head...so don't be shocked by the occasional moronic question from me. ie- why does my accord MGC list MPI as a connection and I can't find any information about MPI's on the internet?

Yeah, I'm in over my head.

J.

Welcome!
Don't be worried about asking questions here since we've all been in the same position at one time or another. There's a wealth of knowledge and experience to tap into.

The MPI (Multi Protocol Interface) on the MGC platform is a network service option to support direct connection through a serial interface. The option shows up in the configuration 'in case' you have the appropriate card and need for it. The ATM option is also there but not used unless you have an ATM network connection. We have ISDN PRI's and IP network connections and have only ISDN and H.323 network services defined.
