View Full Version : Cisco 3540 bridge with Tandbergs - Audio issues after software upgrade

Hi,

I have recently upgraded software to the following versions;

Cisco 3540 MCU - 3.5.24
Cisco 3540 GW - 3.0.0.12
Tandberg 2500's and 6000's - B9.1
Tandberg 6000 - E4.1

The RM card (VPS) was not upgraded but is running 3.0.9

All was well before the upgrades, however now I am getting calls logged about poor audio, echo at the start of calls, and sometimes audio dropping out. Video is generally ok, however some users have said it looks poor.

This has been over the last 7 days. In testing it proves to be hard to replicate, however in one of the tests, a 384k IP Symmetrical CP 1 hr call, I did notice the audio from the far end dropping out now and then. Video I can't seem to fault, looks the same as it always has for 384k, h.263.

Sadly, user feedback indicates far more severe effects occurring during some, but not all, VC's.

I've gone over all the config and can find nothing out of the ordinary. Tried new services, etc etc. All settings on the end point and bridge are as they were prior to the upgrade, nothing was lost except web shots and custom IVR messages, which I've since rectified.

Neither the bridge nor end points are showing up lost or out of order packets.

Point to Point seems to be fine.

I'm using a small packet size of 30 in the MCU services, increasing this doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anyone know of any issues with these releases, or anything I should be sure to check?

I will be doing more testing and will collect logs, just checking to see if there's something obvious I've missed, or if this is a known issue?

Cheers,
david.

David,

If there is one available, update that VPS blade. I have dealt mainly with the boxes directly from Radvision, and have had issues in the past with upgrading the MCU and GW, but not the VPS or MVP blades. This has resulted in poor conferences when the VPS or MVP blades are utilized. Other than that it sounds like you already have a handle on your logs, so the people at Cisco/Radvision should be able to tell you what is going on from those.

David;
Did you ever figure out what was causing your echo?
Are you sure all the echo settings on the endpoints were correct?

Hi,

thanks for the responses.

I could not find a defnitive cause of the problem, but was informed of a new MCU release, so decided to try that prior to rolling back.

5 weeks now and all has been well on MCU version 3.6.28

We had 1 occasion where a user claimed there was echo for a couple of minutes during a call but otherwise it's be fine.

Perhaps the fix can be attributed to the inclusion of QualiVision packet loss compensation, which appears to do a similar job to Tandbergs IPLR.

Why 3.5 suddenly had the issue over 3.0 and earlier, when nothing changed on the network, no one knows. Unless it's more related to 3.5 and the latest Tandberg releases.

So anyway, all good at the moment, touch wood.

cheers
dave
