Hi y'all
anyone got any solutions for connecting a standard Plantronics headset into the mic of a Viewstation? Its the standard mic jack like you get on your PC card.
thanks as always!

Maybe through the Visual Concert? That's got an audio input as I recall...but that particular audio might only be available when viewing the source from the VC....
...just brainstorming...

nah, sorry, no Visual Concerts here. All I've got is the standard issue Viewstation 512 from years back, and a standard issue mic/headphone headset.

what about using a 1/8" plug to RCA adapter?

Unless your headset mic puts out a line level signal you will have to hook the headset to a pre-amp or mixer. After that you should be able to plug it into the line in on the back of the codec. Also I think the plantronics headsets use a single plug for mic and headphones so you’ll need to break that out with an adapter first. BTW I think the plug on the Via-Video was designed for that purpose, is that an option?

Don't forget that many headsets require +5v for the microphones to work correctly (power is usually provided in the jack on most laptops)... Phantom power (provided by most mixers) is +48v so it's a bit much...

The mike on the viewstation transmit a digital signal to the viewstation so trying to add the signal to the line wont work.
If you can spare a mike pod you might try replacing one of the three mikes on the board (inside the mike) with a female jack connector. There is power for those mikes but keep in mind that you could damage the mike pod doing this.
I dont know how sensitvie those mikes are so you might need to put somthing inbetwine the mike pod and the headset to boost the signal.
I would not try this myself unless I had no other chose, but it might just work.

man, this sounds complex! My headset is a very very basic Plantronics effort, with separate headphone and mic leads. On the Sonys that we have, of course you can just plug the thing into the back. In fairness, its only for my use in the office, so hi-hi-tech solutions that involve a bit of engineering are a bit unnecessary. I'm guessing by this that no one has done it before, and that there isn't a ready-to-use adaptor anywhere...!

In that case your probly better of sending the signal in throug a line in at the back of the Viewstation itself with a mike amplifier. what type of viewstation do you have ?
The larger verisons of Viewstations have a special mike ampl. input at the back (black RCA connector).
