Hello everyone. My name is Mike Daniska and I am a graduate assistant in the Business, Career and Technical Education Dept. at East Carolina University. I must admit that I am not a Video Conferencing professional, but I do have a quick question that I was hopeing someone might be able to help me out with.

One of our professors had been teaching in 3 classrooms using Polycoms. Everything worked great. We recently switched out the Polycom and view station from the classroom she was physically in and replaced them with the Tandberg 880XP.

Everything is working fine now, except that we cannot figure out how to show her presentation full screen in the other 2 classrooms. Pressing "Self View" on the remote brings the presentation up in full screen in her classroom, but the other two class rooms still see the presentation as part of the split screen.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated for both a frustrated grad assistant and professor!

Thanks,

Mike

If I read this correctly, I think you should try the 'layout' on the remote to see if it does what you want.

Sean,

First off, thanks for helping out. Upon your suggestion, we tried using the "layout" button and it moved the "picture in picture" display around the screen, but it did not show the presentation full screen in the other 2 rooms. I am beginning to wonder if this is b/c we are using Polycom EXs in the other rooms.

After reading your post, I did go into the layout menu and selected 5+1 for the display, and this does make the presentation bigger in the other rooms, but it still does not take up the full screen.

Sounds like the presentation is being sent as the only video stream (scan converted image) and not in a dual-video stream format. When you were using all Polycom's they probably understood what was coming but now you have Tandberg and Polycom's talking together they are not on the same page for the presentation stream.

Try the 'layout' button in the room that is seeing the split image (receive side).

Hi Joe,

FYI, TANDBERG supports native XGA on both the main and the secondary stream. Also, all TANDBERG systems that have ever supported DuoVideo support H.239 today. Question would be what Polycom are you using at the other end :-) only the VSX supports H.239.

Sean,

I haven't had a chance to try out your second suggestion today (as we have been gearing up for a conference we are putting on Thursday and Friday in Raleigh 77 miles away); but I do know that the Polycoms we are using in the other rooms are EX models.

Joe,

Thanks for the input. I had wondered about this, that the problem might be on the Polycom end since they are different brands.

It sounds as if our best bet might be switch the Polycom FX back in place of the Tandberg. The idea of a converter crosses my mind (if there is one), but I do not think our professor would want to go to that much trouble. We really need for the presentation to be full screen because the professor is showing her classes how to use MS Office 2003, and the students really need to see everything as big as possible.

Thanks for all of the help!

Hi Mike, neither the PLCM FX nor EX support H.239 standards based dual streams. They will only talk to each other. Both units only support XGA on the second stream (which is proprietary) and cannot send XGA on the main stream -- at least I could never get it to work.
