I was wondering if anyone's used this product from Polycom yet?:

It appears to be a piece of software (installed on the codec and PC) that allows you to push content from a PC to a VSX series codec without the need of the (underwhelmingly unimpressive & expensive) Visual Concert.

I remember a similar product released a few years ago for the older VS codecs; this software actually worked pretty well but never seemed to catch on (even though it was free). If anyone has any info on pricing it would be appreciated too.

Thanks much

Smoody,
I have this software working with all of my VSX endpoints (500/7000/8000) and it’s very nice! It sends the content to the endpoint through the network and seems to run at about 15fps. It also gives you the ability to magnify a portion of the screen. As for the comparison with the older software the difference is that this uses the newer dual stream (H.239/ P+C) technology where as I believe the older software just used annex-d graphics (snap shots).
Hope this helps,

I love it but it doesn't do "Overly" graphics, that is to say you cant watch a media player with it.

Thanks very much to Tom & Skylark for their responses.

Tom, you indicated that you have this running on all your VSX units, did your Polycom reseller give you a "volume discount" for this? If so, could you indicate how much you paid?

Smoody,
I should clarify, the units I’m referring too are my test units and they were upgraded as part of the beta testing process. So unfortunately I don’t know how they are handling the cost side of this. I’d be curious to hear what a reseller tells you.

As for Skylark’s comment about not working with media player and a movie file, I just tested it and mine works fine so I’m not sure why he is having that problem.

My dealer told that the price for this piece of software is around 60% of the Visual Concert (not really cheap taking into account that Tandberg endpoints support VNC connections for free).

So will the Tandberg convert VNC to H.239 or do all endpoints in the conference have to run the VNC client?

The User Guide from Tandberg's web page tells:
"The Presentation menu offers you all available video sources; Main Camera, PC, Document Camera, VCR, AUX and VNC. All these sources can be used as Main Video or Presentation (Duo Video / H.239)."

VNC is just a method for getting the PC capture into the codec, it is in turn encoded just as any other source would be. Think of VNC replacing the VGA cable. So the answer is yes, VNC can be encoded as XGA on the main or second stream, DuoVideo or H.239.

You can get VNC Software for no charge at this site: http://www.realvnc.com/

You can, of course, upgrade it for a charge but the free version will work just fine as well.

Very cool! So can the VNC client also be used with the Tandberg mcu? I’m specifically thinking of this a way to resolve the legacy codec problem. So a site with a non-h.239 capable codec could interact with the conference using the codec for a/v and the VNC client for content.
