Hello, I am trying to configure SDSL (2Mb) line to use with Tandberg 880 system. The line will also be used to access the internet from 2 workstations. The ISP provided just one IP address, and the router assignes internal IP addresses to all connected endpoints. When being called, the system does not answer, and when calling the other end could see me and that's about it.
I read members talking about port forwarding, NAT, etc. No idea what is the best way to actually make it work. May be you can advice?

If the line is just used to acces the Internet for two workstasions and nothing else, then It would be easies to just forward all incoming ports to your Tanberg.

It differs very much betwine vendors how/where you configure this but in all cases you are telling your router to take all incoming calls and send them to your Tanberg.

To do this you need to have a fixed IP on your Tanberg and point the router to that IP.

"stick" words you are looking for on the router are NAT, DMZ and/or Gameing

If you wana do this the right way 8), you need tp route port 1720 to the Tanbergs IP and eighter use Dynamic NAT or define ports on the Tanberg for calls and rout them allso.

Thank you Skylark. If all the incoming calls are forwarded to the Tandberg, will the workstations be able to use software like Skype or messangers?

Also, the ISP assigned to the network one IP address, but the router assigned to the Tandberg system another. What IP should the external vc calls use?

I actually did that you suggested, but currently I have noone to connect to try it out.

Turbo,

I will be out of the office until next Monday, but if you need an IP system to call, send me an email (check my profile) and I can give you a few IP addresses you can use for call testing.

turbo,

Assign the tandberg IP as a DMZ host. The router will basically treat the tanbderg like it's outside of the firewall. This way you can give your extrnal IP as the IP distant ends connect to and you won't have to worry about specific ports beign forwarded etc.

This set up will also not affect the other workstations on the network.

no, Its a concept to asign a Static IP address for many hosts in the private networks(thorugh NAT).

george! i did as you said and it worked. thank you. the connection to the test ip numbers from tandberg and polycom is not high quality though. i really hope it can get better... are there any secrets how to achieve best video quality on ip?
