I heard that Aethra was going to implement 14 kHz audio in their terminals. Any comments

Probably based on the soon to be ratified ITU standard version of the PictureTel/Polycom Siren 14khz that's been around since 2000.

Yes, G.722.1 Annex C..

Which should be ratified very shortly (less than 30 days from my understanding).

Gary,
Have you heard if anyone else is planning to support it?

I'm expecting to see a press release soon about it. From a very biased view, it appears to be some what easier to implement and uses less CPU than other 14khz solutions. Time will tell..

Cool! Now we’ll just have to wait and see who decides to add it to their products. Interesting that the press release talked about using this not only in vc, but also in several other applications.

Maybe Steve Jobs will migrate the Apple iPod from AAC to Siren 14 (G.722.1 Annex C).

Interesting the press release decided to look at a subset of the testing (rather than the whole test) of Siren 14 versus AAC to make the statement that it outperforms AAC. I guess you can always find one of many tests that you excel at and focus on it for marketing purposes.

Why was AAC adopted by the ITU before Siren 14? I am sure it wasn't because it was an inferior codec.

Strange that Polycom doesn't tell us in the announcement that it was only approved on IP (H.245).

Sean do you know where I could get my hands on that test?
