I’ve been testing it since Thursday and I’ve only found one weird little problem on the auto-negotiation side. Basically if I run a CP conference at 512k and everything set to auto I run into an issue with an old Zydacron Z360. The system tries to come it at 384k rather than 512k. This causes the endpoint to hookup with secondary status. The only reason I can see that this happens is the Zydacron is limited to 384k when running H.263.
The workaround is just to switch the video alg on that endpoint properties from Auto to H.261.

I also just recieved the dongle and 7.0 media but cant install it untill classes are over because the bridge is constantly in use. Hoping i can do it on a weekend ;)

Did anyone running 7.0 try to connect to a VTEL TC2000 or Gal. yet? I read in the release notes its incompatable but i would imagine it would work or i could try setting it to H.261 for the site.

I don’t have one to test with but if it’s accessible through a public IP I’d be happy to bring it into a conference. If interested just pm me with the time and address. I know when we’ve brought them into conferences before they sometimes use H.263 and sometimes use H.261 it seems to depend on the build they are running.

Hi,

The codec in our system is FX and MGC100.
So, if using MGC 7.0 then can have ITU H.264
instead of H.264* ? Have anyone tried it?

Works fine as long as your FX has the keys to enable H.264. One thing to know though is that it appears the MGC will only support H.264 conferences up to 384k and 15fps. BTW if someone figures out a setting to change that fixes this I’d like to know.

BTW if someone figures out a setting to change that fixes this I’d like to know.In case anyone is interested, the H.264 in version 7 does work with TANDBERG, but due to the 15fps limitation in CP mode, you may find that the TANDBERG prefers H.263 because of the 30fps. Also H.264 is only supported up to 384kbps, so speeds higher than 384kbps will result in H.263.

In the video world, each side presents what it is able to decode and the sender has full freedom to 'prefer' to encode any of the presented decoding abilities. In our case, we prefer 30fps over 15fps video as we have made a design decision that is provides an overall better experience.

Thought I would provide that as we have received quite a few calls on the subject as people are confused why H.264 is not working. It will, if you put the TANDBERG into a situation where it does 15fps in H.264 (128 or below).

If the framerates are equal, we will prefer the 'better' video algorithm. If/when the Accord does 30fps in the future, it should work at all rates.

This thread has kind of died out a little. Has anybody tried the Galaxy yet? I'm planning to upgrade to 6.1 or 7.0 this Friday and I have a lot of Galaxy units out there. I've read the notes on 6.x, but plan to read up on 7.0 this week..so not sure what I'll find there.

Slimey,

Was that version 6.x or 7 that you found would work with the VTEL Galaxy units? I have about 20 of them and some Polycom FX units. I want to do the update soon but don't to destroy a working system while doing it.

version 6.x and 7 worked fine

Yes. Later versions of MGC 7.0 will support 30 FPS in H.264. It has been noted and on the todo list.

I have found several issue with v7.0. We now have mostly Tandberg 770 endpoints. We are an IP site, and during large VTC's we need to restrict the bandwidth to 128. In order to give the best video possible, I wanted to hard code the video to G.728 to use the lowest bandwidth possible for audio. What I have seen is that the bridge will still send out all caps for audio, meaning that it still sent out G.722 caps. I was told to roll back the bridge to v6.10 and it will work properly.

Also, the manager software shuts down quite frequently. There are two of here that administrate and it does it to both our laptops.

Sometimes we can't change settings on meeting room conferences. For instance I have to delete and recreate if I want to make it a video switching instead of CP.

We also had to set default to "monitor all conferences". The manager would hang up and not show real time changes unless we set this.

I would not recommend going to 7.0 if you don't need to. I would wait at least until the next version arrives, and maybe wait even then.

mr. rush,

i wouldn't call that a bug, rather a "cockpit error."

if you want to change the settings, here's the way to do it:

1. Right-click to "copy conference".
2. Terminate the conference.
3. Paste the conference as... and it will let you change the settings.

hope that helps.
