Here's the system.
EF2241, (2) Wireless Shure PZM's, Viewstation FX.
The site is complaining that the audio starts out fine from the far end when they first start talking, and then ramps up pretty loud if they continue to talk, when the near site talks for a while and then the far site takes over the conversation again it happens all over. It seems to be happening with only the Video codec. When they do an audio only call with the built in dialer of the Vortex, the audio is very even during the entire conversation, even if they do a multipoint call with one audio only and one video call (the video call's audio still ramps up and down). I've looked at the settings in Conference composer but don't really see anything obvious.
Any thoughts?

I have a room where it does that too, but it starts very low and ramps up to normal. No ever complains because it's so hard to notice.... strange to see it happens elsewhere.

I believe that is what's happening, but to them it appears to get very loud, rather than normal.
Let's try to get some commonalities between our systems.
The codec itself is in a enclosed inwall enclosure and the EF2241 is in rack in a closet. It is pretty hot inside the inwall enclosure, I am concerned about this, but I wouldn't think it would cause these types of problems, but, heat does strange things. Do you have a lot of heat buildup around your codec?

It is in a credenza with an EF2280, Tandberg 2500, Extron switcher and Crestron controller, but we installed a few fans in there so it isn't terrible. I would think if it were heat related, the system would flat out not work, but as you said, it can do strange things. I would spend some times using the meter and make sure that the system is spiking like that.
Are you using an amplifyer at all? We are using a Toa model which then runs to 8 JBL ceiling speakers.
I have brought this to the attention of the company who holds a warrenty for this room, but they have proved themselves to be incompetent multiple times.
I believe there are settings to bring the output down on the phone line on a 2241, but not sure where to do that. You could try that if nothing else works.

Try cutting off the AGC on the vortex inputs as well as in the codec menus, the vortex default AGC is -3db to +3db which may not sound like a lot but to the ear it can be quite a difference (the default AGC on the telco is a bit higher spread), the microphones may also be gating on in response to the far end audio, to get rid of this increase the adaptive ambient value on the gating control page to where the mic only gates on with local voice, lastly even though it makes no sense try reducing the NC value for each mic input (it's like the noise suppression sometimes does weird things to volume levels)

Yeah, the AGC is off on the Codec inputs to the 2241.
I just have a general question on the diagnostics page. The Reference level sliders, what should they be set at? If I have my mics at around 0db through the vortex, should I match the reference levels on the diagnostic page to that same level?

Just curious if you ever figured out your problem Morgan...
