Hi,

What do you guys think about the possibility of share a codec polycom vsx 800 for 2 rooms?
So, from a remote polycom codec, I would like to serve 2 rooms for videoconferencing, and bring the VGA, VIDEO, AUDIO, RS-232 signals, in and out, in both the separated rooms.

I was thinking about using:

1 vga 2x1 switcher in (like the kramer PT-201VGA or kramer VP-201xl )
1 video 2x1 switcher in
1 audio 2x1 switcher in
1 rs-232 2x1 switcher in

1 vga 2x1 splitter out
1 video 2x1 splitter out
1 audio 2x1 splitter out
1 rs-232 2x1 splitter out

Another doubt, how does the integrated web server work in this codec? Is it trustfull? Will I be able to command the conference (videocamera, etc.) from a browser on a remote pc, connected through rs-232 to the codec?

thank you

possible.. but in these situations.. elegant control is always the issue.

How much effort are you willing to go through for a solution that doesn't allow you to grow?

Many people replacing analog systems do this... but typically do it for more rooms with bigger switchers.

For 2 rooms I'd say just buy two codecs and make life easier and better.

Actually I was told that is better to use matrixes 8x8 in and out rather than 2x1 splitters and switchers, in order to control VGA, audio, video and rs-232 signals.
What do you think?

Better from several points..

less gear.. less clutter.. easier to install.. easier to control (one device vs trying to control lots).

But an 8x8 switcher will almost certainly require a control system while with smaller switchers you probably could have gotten by with mechanical controls.

get more bang for your buck and buy a Sony PCS (IPELA) G-70 for under $8,500 USD each and put one in both rooms. Or use the PCS-1 (with serial control) for under $5,500.

I can't see the reason for doing this at all?

You are starting to load up with extra audiio and video equipment that will far exceed the cost of a second polycom VSX system. And I'll bet you will not come close in functionality or easyness of use with this setup.

But this is just my opinion.
