InfoComm 05 to Showcase Collaborative Conferencing Technologies and Education
“Hummer” Mobile Command Center a Featured Attraction

FAIRFAX, VA. April 13, 2005 -- The International Communications Industries Association, Inc.® (ICIA®) announced today the expansion of its collaborative conferencing technology program at InfoComm 05.

Among the new developments is a New Product Showcase where attendees will get a “hands-on” look at the latest technologies for implementing video, audio and data/web conferencing solutions, related accessories and supplies.

With Sony Conferencing as a Platinum Sponsor of the Collaborative Conferencing Pavilion at InfoComm and other sponsors including Glow Point, LifeSize Communications, Polycom, Inc., TANDBERG, Verizon, ACT Teleconferencing, Arel Communications and Software, Inc., Direct Access Systems, RADVISION, TeleWriter Corporation, and York Telecom Corporation, the pavilion offers a comprehensive array of technologies for workplace and educational environments.

One highlight of the New Product Showcase is a working mobile command-and-control center operating within a Hummer vehicle, an attraction sponsored by TANDBERG. The Hummer Tactical MXP can be used for secure communications, security and surveillance, training and distance learning, telemedicine and other applications. For example, first responders to a disaster location can relay the sights, sounds and details of the situation, transmitting live video of the scene using the remote camera and receiving life-saving instructions in return.

The Collaborative Conferencing Pavilion spans over 9,600 sq. feet of 285,000 n.s.f. of total exhibit space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. In addition, an educational program covers all aspects of video-, audio-, web- and data-conferencing, from basic to technically advanced levels. The program offers distributors, installers, buyers and users of conferencing products a complete opportunity to learn and explore the latest new technologies in this growing field.

According to ICIA's 2004 Market Definition and Strategy Study, the North American Audio & Video Conferencing market was worth $534M in 2004. This market is expected to grow by 9.7% per year over the next five years. This can be compared with overall growth in the AV market of 9.6%. The study further reveals that a majority (80%) of ProAV Dealers believe that there is high opportunity for revenue growth in the Conferencing market.

Respondents to ICIA’s 2004/2005 Market Forecast identified several important trends and technologies of specific relevance to the growth of videoconferencing:

• A need for AV solutions to solve communication challenges
• The ability of AV solutions to improve the educational process
• The capacity of AV solutions to support more effective presentation of information
• Overall integration and convergence of IT/AV systems and solutions
• Increased use of streaming media services, wireless technologies, and IP-based products, services and control systems
• Broader availability and adoption of enabling technologies such as high performance networks and greater bandwidth

In 2001, InfoComm became the first tradeshow to introduce videoconferencing as an important segment of its AV displays and applications. In 2002, ICIA/InfoComm and the Interactive Multimedia Collaborative Communications Alliance (IMCCA) formed a partnership to promote the use of collaborative conferencing worldwide. IMCCA sponsors the Collaborative Conferencing Pavilion as well as an educational track at the Show.

Products and services featured in the pavilion include audioconferencing, videoconferencing, echo cancellers, integrated projection and web-based document conferencing systems, wireless document conferencing cameras, IP communications and networking, ISDN routers, multipoint control units (MCUs), multiplexers, data/webconferencing, servers, and portable, room and group systems. Live conferencing demonstrations and technology application sessions will be conducted within the pavilion during the three days of the Show.

In addition to the Exhibition taking place June 8-10, InfoComm features over 200 courses through ICIA and its partners’ conferences. For beginners, IMCCA is conducting a full-day session on June 7 entitled Introduction to Collaborative Conferencing. Three-day Institute for Professional Development courses include Lighting for Videoconference and Presentation Spaces and Videoconference Technology, Applications and Trends, taking place June 4-6. Other courses include:

• An Alternate Approach to IP Migration

* Offered by EduComm at InfoComm, a special conference for the education market produced by University Business and District Administration magazines
