have you read the sip documentation from Polycom? And define 'sip video phone'.

If the system can dial IP addresses (the vsx can) you can probably call directly between them. If not, you'll have to get the VSX registered to the registar that the other sip system is using.

In short.. the answer completely relies on what you are trying to use.

I could give a lame answer of 'just dial the IP address' which could be correct.. but could not be as well. Completely depends on the systems and if they are even compatible.

SIP interop is far worse then H323

VSX can dial SIP video call directly without proxy or register server ist?. how can setup this and make a SIP call between two VSX without a Thridparty SIP Videophone.

just make sure SIP is enabled on both units.. dial by IP address and say to use SIP.

The issue is when trying to connect to something that doesn't support IP dialing.. or for some reason in the SIP setup all calls must be processed by the registar/proxy.

In the case of two VSXs that is not required. Just dial away. But what are you trying to achieve?

If you think its going to be 'different' in anyway.. its not. Its going to be H323 with limitations. SIP is virtually identical to H323 except in signaling/messaging.

hi thanks,

so in the vsx don't need to give registar ip address and username password(only I need to enable the sip). With out that I can dial a SIP call is that right.I have tried with a SIP videophone with vsx, the phone have to registar/proxy with the server then only i can able to make call.So that I have little confusion in vsx also.So what is the purpose of option in the vsx registar server ip address.

ok.. you are making this harder then it is.

Think of it just like H323.. some systems allow dialing direct by IP address without using the Gatekeeper. SIP can be the same way.. two systems can communicate directly between each other without using a registar/proxy.. depending on their implementation.

The reason for proxy/registar in the VSX is to implement SIP properly. Just like in H323, dialing by IP address is not a good solution.. neither is it in SIP. It *can* work depending on the devices and methods in use.. but without it you can't get any of the benefits the proxy/registar give.. and often the systems can NOT dial by IP address.

People are just spoiled(ruined) by dialing by IP address in H323...
