Please read below and respond with your comments. Will IVE's features make a real impact within the industry? Did anyone see the demo at InfoComm05? Thanks.

"We've created an engaging communications experience, allowing people to interact wherever they are," said Michael McCausland, vice president of visual communications at Sony Electronics. "Using the power of IP-based video, we have teamed up with GlowPoint to expand video communications beyond the conference room to where people actually conduct business - at their desks, in their home offices or on the road. Sony's new IVE service is a key element of our vision to transform communications by integrating and interconnecting people, locations, devices and content in real-time over unlimited distances with an unsurpassed level of quality."

While fully integrated for use with Sony's state-of-the-art IPELA™ visual communications product line, the IVE service is an open standards solution that is operable for all companies using IP-enabled videoconferencing equipment, regardless of product manufacturer.

I know that Sony's IVE (Instant Video Everywhere) service is powered by GlowPoint and that it supposedly enables users to easily conduct "face-to-face" video conversations. The IVE system was developed to extend across multiple Sony product lines, moving from the conference room and typical videoconferencing equipment to equipment such as laptop computers and other video-enabled devices.
There was supposed to be a demo of Sony's new IVE Mobile service, at InfoComm.

I've looked at their website at http://sony.glowpoint.com/ But I'm really interested in hearing from professionals in the business who may have seen the product in action or from anyone else as to how they feel the product will impact the industry.

Thanks again.

Trap....don't hate the player. If I knew more, I wouldn't be asking.
I'm just wondering if this is significant news or not. From the response...I'd say not.

The only thing I can add is that it looks like they are reselling the full QoS version that includes dedicated broadband access, video mail and operator assistance. But instead of "Welcome to Glowpoint" users get "Welcome to Sony IVE".
Here is all I know about any new features: First, there's a bring-your-own-access (BYOA) offering called IVE Mobile for business users that will cost somewhere between $35 and $50 a month, depending on the length of contract signed. What you get is a SIP-based software client and 10-digit phone number for people to reach you. They don't need to know your IP address, which can change depending on what network your connected to. People with voice lines can be reached too. There's even some basic NAT/firewall traversal technology built in to get around issues typically encountered at a hotel or on a home network. With the monthly BYOA service, you get unlimited calling, which goes out over the Internet and into the Glowpoint network, where it's bridged to the H.323 world. You can call any IP or ISDN endpoint.

If that doesn't help.....go ahead and bash me again.....it's all I got.
