I have a unusual problem. I have a VSX8000 connected to a Initia Model 20 Access Switch via a pair of Eastern Research Video Service Units. I also have KIV-19A, Dial Isolator, etc. My problem is this. In order for the unclassifed dial-in to work I have to click off the Crypto Resync on RTS setting, but then I cannot dial out classifed. Finally, if setup, I cannot get the system to respond to a classifed call in. Any ideas out there?

VTCGUY,
I'm afraid you're out of luck with the first issue. As part of your SOP for setting up the secure call, you'll have to check box that crypto resync and uncheck it for unclass calls. Just the nature of having one system for dual roles.

In reference to your other issue, how far are you getting. Does the VSX even answer? Do the KIV's sync up?

I am having a similar issue. I have a VSX8000 running thru a Titan Dial Isolator, a Titan modified Pulse Frame 3035, a KG-194 and an ADTRAN 512 ISU. I can make a non-secure call no problem. When I try to make a secure call my crypto and ADTRAN sync up, but near and far end codecs will not negotiate the call.

Could this be caused by not having the Resync check in the Polycom?

Yes, but that may not be it either. Cabling maybe an issue. And make sure you are using ver8.03 on the 8000.

there are also some Polycom-acknowledged timing issues that the VSX 8K serial module has.

polycom engineering came up with a test build for Ver 8.0.3. for the 8K, which so far seems to be holding up good for a non-secure site.

perhaps someone needs to get on to Tier 2/3 and address this problem in secure calls.

just my two cents.

The cabling is from Titan and it is all RS-530 straight thru (Red and Black side). I've made it up to tier 2 at Polycom and all they could say is that if it works in non-secure than it is a crypto issue and I can't get them past that point.

It's always a crypto problem (At least that's what I've been told since I became a crypto maintenance troop in '93)

Check the config of the Madge 20 and see if Follow RTS is checked on the port setup. This may be causing the problem.

The KG-194 and KIV-19 are bulk encryptors and do not work very well for secure dial-up VTC systems using RS-366. The reason being is that they do not pass the necessary control/handshaking signals between the IMUX and CODEC. They only pass data/clock signals. These signals (RTS/CTS, DTR/DSR, CD, etc) are needed inconjunction with the normal RS-366 dialing port to initiate/receive calls on the CODEC. You can still use the KG-194 and KIV-19, but you need to set the CODEC to manual answer and dial from the IMUX. FYI, if you are on the DVSG network, DVS Ops will soon require all dial-up sites to use KIV-7s, which do work with RS-366 dialing. Hope this helps.
