OK - I've got some wireless broadband issues at home, so I thought, where's the best place to get support?

So here's the scenario. I have a PC, with Linksys PCI adaptor. I have an Addon gateway, and a standard domestic ASDL line. The Wireless adaptor senses the presence of the wireless network, and connects accordingly. Yet after two weeks usage, one evening I found I could not get anything on internet explorer, iTunes, MSN Messenger, Skype or anything. Page cannot be displayed and all that.

In true helpdesk fashion I have proved that the line is OK (always first on my list - check the BT line!!), by successfully using a USB modem. I am able to access the homepage of the gateway when the USB modem is taken out of play (i.e. just the wireless connection is there). I have checked the settings of the gateway with the retailer - all good there. I have changed the PCI slot for the adaptor, and re-installed windows. And still nothing happens. There are no other users, no other PCs, peripherals or anything. So it can't be that complicated, can it?

Is there anything in IE that I should be checking? Answers on a postcard please...

thanks for your collective wisdom.

Andy

I was about to say firewall stuff, but I guess it can't be that anyway..
I remember from my own Linksys wireless setup that everytime I have problems I'm usually messing up some firewall/IP setting somewhere in the router or in my ZoneAlarm.

Btw, I'm not sure that I can completely follow the description Andy, but maybe that's just me being a home-wireless-rookie :glasses:

Good luck!

Maybe an IP address change from your ISP?

Can you ping the gateway? Or anything else outside your home network. If so then your problem is probably a security setting that got changed somehow.

Try downloading NetStumbler. It should pickup any wireless devices close by and give you a chance to check your settings. http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/

Best of luck,
