I'm looking for a link or otherwise to a comprehensive list of specifications to ask for when ordering PRI's.

I want to make sure the telco gets it right! I'm ordering 5 circuits, 3 for a Tandberg MCU, 2 for a Tandberg Gateway.

Any help would be appreciated! Glad I found the forum...I'm sure it will prove valuable!

hi

PRI is comes with 30 B channel and one D channel(called E1 line) most of everywhere except north america and japan using T1 line 24 B channel and one D channel. There are two types of connectivity 1 pair wire modem and 2 pair wire modem depends opon your distance between you and the telco.

There is a Master modem in the Telco which act as the primary and CPE (customer permises modem) modem(you end is a slave) act as slave. This will establish the connectivity between your place and telo through the copper wire. The rest of the configuration will take care of the telco. From the modem you will take connectivity to your MCU and Gateway.

unfortunately there is more to it when it comes to provisioning ISDN.

At the minimum without getting into the specifics of the switch config.. just the high level features you want.

You'll want to make sure
- get a compatible switch type to your gear
- provisioned for voice AND digital data
- provisioned for the # of DID numbers you'll want. Since these are services, there are a number of DIDs you'll need. You should talk to your vendor to discuss the #'s you'll need. Its not as easy as '5 sites, 5 numbers'. You'll need more to handle simultaneously calls, dedicated numbers for specific items, etc.
- you'll need to specify if you want the PRIs trunked together, so numbers can ring on any channel on any circuit. You'll want to also have multiple simultaneous instances for each number, so the same number can be dialed again without ringing busy.
- getting long distance service setup (usually handled differently for ISDN vs voice lines)

And there is more I don't have right in front of me. Basically you need to worry about what type of functionality that will be required from the gear. Don't worry about the phsyical aspects of the line, the carrier knows plenty about that.. worry about getting the 'options' you need on the line :)

Ok, thanks!

So the telco should know what to enable/disable to make this work for conferencing? (framing, zero sub, hunt, etc.)

unfortunately our PRIs were here before I got here, so I don't know what they specified when ordering, but I've never heard of issues getting the phsyical line setup.. its more the stuff on top of it. As long as it can handle 64kbs unrestricted data calls.. the rest is dial plan stuff.

This is for ISDN, but pretty much you need the same settings for PRI. Except what are you using to break out your BRI for your videoconferencing? I m formiliar with ATLAS 550. If i can help email me.
