View Full Version : A bunch of Tandberg Questions

My questions get the best answers here, and I have a bunch to ask.
1) Is there an actual hardware difference between a Tandberg 770MXP and Tandberg 880MXP. Can a 770 be upgraded?
2) Can you slow the Duo Video feed? A standard 384kbps call has 64kbps for audio and 320kbps for video. When DuoVideo is activated both video and duovideo are now 160kbps. Can I have a 250/70 ratio instead of 160/160?
3) What is a good PSTN<->H323 gateway?
4) Can you turn on the IR receiver on both the Tandberg 6000 E-series and the camera?
5) When you hit Self-view on an E-series the second screen shows yourself. On an MXP the main screen show yourself, can you change it to the secondary screen.
6) Can the Tandberg Gatekeeper provide more accurate call stats to TMS?
7) The Tandberg 6000 E-series loops the VCR and PC in through the main output, can you turn this loop off?
Tandberg MCU H264
Are there different versions of the Tandberg MCU, if so is there less functionality in the older ones? Can they be upgraded with newer functionality?
My H264 limitations (Can newer version remove this limits?)
-Only Continuous Presence 4 and voice switched
-Only without Duo Video
-Only while 1 of the 3 conference are being used in the MCU
-Cannot view snapshots in MCU while using H264
-Does MPS allow for H264 to be used in these situations?
Thanks,
Andrew

they are the same, but I don't know if they'll sell you an upgrade. You'll have to find a sales guy for that. We've never bought the lower end ones ourselves.
2) Can you slow the Duo Video feed? A standard 384kbps call has 64kbps for audio and 320kbps for video. When DuoVideo is activated both video and duovideo are now 160kbps. Can I have a 250/70 ratio instead of 160/160?
no, its automatically segmented based on the speed you are at. the concept is the content source typically is much more static so it doesn't need to steal as much precious bandwidth when at low speeds. at higher speeds it is 50/50 I think.
3) What is a good PSTN<->H323 gateway?
An ISDN line into your codec if you can afford it. Most people buy gateways are part of a larger MCU if you want a centralized resource.
4) Can you turn on the IR receiver on both the Tandberg 6000 E-series and the camera?
yes, there is a dataport command for that. its not in the menus. its like 'ir' something. just use the help built into the dataport.
5) When you hit Self-view on an E-series the second screen shows yourself. On an MXP the main screen show yourself, can you change it to the secondary screen.
thats because one of your systems has dual monitor on and the other doesn't. Check those settings.
6) Can the Tandberg Gatekeeper provide more accurate call stats to TMS?
Define 'more'. more then what?
7) The Tandberg 6000 E-series loops the VCR and PC in through the main output, can you turn this loop off?
I'm assuming you are talking audio. the mix minus of the codec is not configurable. But you can turn the inputs on and off on the fly, including them in presets too. Why are you trying to turn off the local audio and not the far-end hearing it too? A VCR doesn't do much good if both sides can't hear it.

I don't know of these limitations. what are you basing these on? I'm pretty sure it does h264 in all formats, and with duovideo, yes only one conference (the others can be active, just not using h264), and snapshots work all the time (except when using encryption and they are turned off).

[QUOTE=Andrew_B]My questions get the best answers here, and I have a bunch to ask.

770MXP and 880MXP (990MXP also) have same hardware; you can upgrade a 770MXP to 880MXP or to 990MXP any time just with the correct license (code key). But, if you are talking about old 770 (without DVI connector), you can not upgrade this to MXP, because are different hardware.
2) Can you slow the Duo Video feed? A standard 384kbps call has 64kbps for audio and 320kbps for video. When DuoVideo is activated both video and duovideo are now 160kbps. Can I have a 250/70 ratio instead of 160/160?
I remember in first DuoVideo implementation you can activate DuoVideo manually, in that case you can chose the bandwidth for second stream. I'm no sure if this still available. May be Sean from Tandberg can tell us.
A saw this command in the API document:
duovideo open 12345678 4b
Opens a second video call to number 12345678 with a 4b (256kb/s) quality.
Of course, theoretically, you can change 4b for any other number to choose the bandwidth you want for second stream.
4) Can you turn on the IR receiver on both the Tandberg 6000 E-series and the camera?
The command is: irctrl on
The problem is that this command is save it in a volatile memory, so you need re-type any time you reboot the codec.
Ones again, I heard there is a method to create an autoexec file in all codecs, so, after codec reboot, it will execute this file, and all commands there. If anybody knows the correct procedure please let us know.

MPS MCU does not have those limitations. You can run H.264 in all conferences, even if enhanced C.P. is selected.
