Streaming with Polycom VSX

I'm working on a project which would require the use of the streaming function of a VSX system. Our location would already have the codec, but I'd like to not require further equipment to use it for streaming of presentations.

I have a few questions, though:

1) Does the system have to be in a VC call for streaming to take place?
2) If so, Is there a way to do a call back to yourself (i.e. doing a call to a loopback address)?

Can you explain a little bit more?

Are there any whitepapers that you know of explaining how to do this?

Also, I should have been specific, I need to be able to see/hear what the camera does on the codec.
