I want to build a VideoConferencing system. the medium i had chosen is ISDN-6. I dont want to buy a ready sloution, instead i would like to pick the best pieces from different vendors. Any recommendations about good quality pieces and software.

Thank you in advance

Are you planning on developing the codec software and interface or do you just want to load a program into a PC (ex. PVX, Netmeeting, etc) and connect your own camera and ISDN lines.

Thanks for the reply,

I will be collecting pieces from here and there. Maybe using the word "building" in my thread was missleading, sorry for that.

I am not sure whether i will use a soft or hard codec.

Thank you in advance

The only software (computer) based system I’m aware of that will work with ISDN is the Zyadacron stuff that is now sold by Scotty. We had several of the Z360 systems and they worked well for their time. Not sure how much things have improved since Scotty took them over. We went back to hardware based units because the pc always seemed to get used for more than just VC and that many times caused performance issues. Otherwise the cards and software worked pretty well. I still have a Z360 system that I keep for legacy testing, not sure how much things have changed but you could call into it over IP if you like.

Hi there!

There are some RADVISION and CISCO IP/VC MCU boards on sale on ebay now, about US$ 250 or less, If you can find a cheap Via/ip-400 or CISCO IP/VC 3540 chassis,I think it will be the most efficient MCU solution.

But does anyone know if radvision MCU boards need license?

Thanks!

Hi,
Cisco and Radvision are almost the same boxes. But there is a difference in software application part of release. Therefore if you have Cisco MCU and software as high as 1 you need only login on cisco download site (in order to change from software v1 you need hardware change). If you have Radvision chassis the software change depends on exact version and really it can be useful to have service to upgrade the system.
