Hi!

Being my first post on the forum i hope i won't sound as unexperienced as i am. :)

I have a question and i hope someone could help me a.s.a.p. as i have to connect a VSX system on monday and i'm not shure how to do it. :ermm:

I will be connecting a Polycom VSX5000 system through a LAN connection behind a Cisco ADSL Router. My problem is that our local ADSL provider gives every ADSL subscriber a different IP everytime he connects to the internet. Let's say i won't have problems to connect to a remote site, but how can a remote site find me if i get a different IP address every time i connect?

I will be testing simmilar connection tomorow with a D-Link DSL360-T Modem. So if anyone have some advices please help.

Your best bet is to setup a Dynamic DNS service like DynDNS.com or tzo.com. If your router supports it (most likely just upgrade the code) you can setup a user name and password. Your router will go to their service and report it's IP address. You would have to setup a hostname like harvell.(dnshostnametheygiveyou).com.

Everytime the router reboots or gets another IP address it will go to the dns service and report it. All you have to do is give the url to people for point to point dialing.

One account is free... I just set this up last night.
