Connecting a Tandberg 3000mxp and Polycom VSX7000 over 512-768k WAN connection and far site (vsx7000) is seeing blocking and pixelation to the extent that the picture is practically useless. VSX7000 or FX in the same location as the Tandberg connecting to the far site VSX7000 does not have the same issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Check both systems are using AES for video? if yes disable and try it again.

Sounds like network issues could be affecting your picture quality. Do you have audio? What software loads are being used and what are you reading in your call diagnostics e.g. H.323, H.264/H.263+ etc.?

I tried to replicate your symptoms using a TB 6000 MXP (F4.0) to a 7000 VSX (8.0.3.o) @384k, 512k, and 768k over IP but could not see the issue you noted.

BTW, I set the AES on/off for each call but it did not affect either way..

I am unable to find any AES settings on the Polycom via the web interface. Can you please point me in the right direction?
I can't find it via the Tandberg web-interface either, but do see under System Status\System Information\Configuration that Encryption is set to FALSE.

I'm leaning the same direction you are in figuring it might be network issues, but I need to do my due diligence and make sure the VC units are config'd properly first so that I have some information to present the folks at AT&T.
We are running audio and video during the call. Please clarify 'software loads'.

I appreciate the responses and look forward to getting this resolved.

AES will be listed as "encryption" or "security" and can be set on/off OR true/false. On older models you might see AES/DES. That said..... If you were already set to false, then no bandwidth was being used for that and neither was additional processing required so you're good there.
This still leaves two possibilities for your issues...
1. the old standby "network issues" .. Applied Global Technologies specializes in finding these issues. Look into them if you wish. If you have a large infrastructure, their tools can be very useful.
2. the other possibility is the way in which the two manufacturers handle the video compression. You mentioned trying a 7000 at both ends.. have you tried a tandberg (or any others) at both ends?

When you did the call between the two Polycom endpoints, I wonder if PVEC was kicking in and masking the problem. The way to check this is to bring up the call statistics and look to see if the video algorithm is green. If it is then PVEC is working and that might be why the call looks better.

Hi,tcgeorge!

It would be better off adding a gatekeeper in H.225 and H.245 routed mode between the Tandberg 3000mxp and Polycom VSX7000 to log the whole detail.

I would be careful with this approach. By doing this you are introducing another possible point of interop. Any logging you need can be done from either the TANDBERG or Polycom endpoint. If you put a routed GK in between all logs will be between the endpoints and GK, not between endpoints, which is what the problem is.

Assume both endpoints work with GK, When GK works as H.225 and H.245 proxy, it could solve most interoperable issures. if is does not, GK's log would be a good judgement.

I wouldn't count on it. Most people do not use routed mode because of the interop issues they face. If it works for you, great, but I wouldn't move that direction because you think it will offer better interop running as a proxy.
