I have a DV Camera. I was curious if there is any way I would be able to use that with the Polycom PVX software? I tried Firewire with no luck. Called polycom direct and they cant give me any answers. Not sure what the next step is.

In theory it should work, but I’ve also seen issues when trying to use cameras other than the standard USB ones.

PVX requires a Windows compatible camera (or adapter that makes your camera LOOK like a windows compatible camera).

I've used PVX with a number of cameras (probably 10 at this point) and several USB to TV/USB adapters (Sony, Cannon, etc). Check the release notes for PVX for the most recent list that Polycom has tested.

Should work if it meets the Windows Compatibility requirements.

Tusin,

I personally use a mini-DV camcorder connected via Adaptec FireWire card as my standard video conection. I've used this type of connection on both on Win2k & XP laptops; not sure why you're having issues, is the camera/firewire connection recognized by other programs such as Movie Maker (Windows XP) - I'm thinking it's very possible you're issue might be OS related and not the PVX application? (did this problem occur after installing XP SP2? I've had some issues where I had to reinstall or find new drivers because SP2 pretty much has a new IEEE1394 IO)

I've also used various USB converter devices (Dazzle, etc.) that also work fairly well. You might also want to check out using an Apple iSight camera, while it doesn't have a zoom the auto-focus is really nice and has a fairly decent price point (~$150 - the same as some high-end web cams that DON'T offer auto-focus).

Good Luck,

I've used the Dazzle 90 and I think it works great. I use the s-video input and it works really well.
