The purpose of this Thread is to get replies from people who currently have Polycom Path Navigator Advanced Gatekeeper deployed and who have positive or negative feedback and possible examples. :thumbup: :thumbdown ?
I'm considering using the Navigator and Polycom Gateway Vs. CISCO GW/GK for our VTC network upgrade to IP out to Sites.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I've deployed MGC Gateway via PLCM PathNavigator. It has been pretty easy if you carefully follow the steps. The only issue I'm currently facing is that my customer needs to dial to Meeting Rooms using 4-digit numbers. However, the default configuration demands that you dial 2 digits for the IP card prefix and 4 digit for the MR. If anyone has any info about it I'd appreciatte the help.
Best,
Joao

Hi Jeff,
I worked with MGC GW & PN and it is really very advanced CPS (Call Processing Server); you can't name it as GK as it does much more!
Hi Joao,
You can change this setting from the 'system.cfg' as you can specify the lenght for the meeting room ID.

Hi Jeff
We do currently use a Cisco GK for our VC infrastructure.
The only thing I can say to this is: Don't use Cisco GKs!

Ste,
Why do you say that? LOL Do you have specific problems? or is it just the Programming?

Cisco GK's are great in the sense that they can handle some advanced features like redundant gatekeepers and provide some decent call detail reporting with logging. The problem with Cisco compared to Polycom is that there is no simplified dialing. So if you want to use a Pathnav with an MGC all you have to dial is 9xxxxxxxxxx where x is the phone number. With a Cisco GK or any other basic gatekeeper you would have to specify a prefix to select the speed and which MCU you would want to go to. I can eloborate on that more if you want me to......

You do not have to do this with a TANDBERG Gatekeeper.

Please do.

Sorry if you think the Tandberg Gatekeeper is a basic GK but I think of it to have some advanced features. :laugh:
I know you are aware of H.323 service prefix and what they are used for. Gatekeeper / Gateway combo's utilize service prefix's to define parameters for the H.320 <=> H323 calls. Advanced GK's and a lot of other Gatekeeper / Gateway combo's have changed theories of dialing to only work on either dialing 0 in Tandberg's case or dialing 9 in Polycom's case. As far as I'm aware of with the Cisco solution you would still have to dial a different service prefix for different speeds.
90 = 128k Bonding Mode 1 Call
91 = 256k Bonding Mode 1 Call
92 = 384k Bonding Mode 1 Call
I could be wrong with that since I haven't looked at their newer documentation. Hopefully Trapp can enlighten us with the Rad perspective.

...dialing to only work on either dialing 0 in Tandberg's case...
Not sure what you are saying here, you aren't forced to dial a 0, you can change this to whatever you like.

True..... I am curious does the Tandberg GK work off an embedded linux platform??? SSH functionality sounds like a great admin tool.
