Tracking service contracts/units

We're in the process of compiling a list on what units are under warranty and not under warranty along with the software versions, etc. What software do you all use to compile all this data or do you just build your own Excel/Access database??

Excel for me.

If I need to add or change any info fields I don't need to get the application programming guys involved.

Started to write an Access db, but half way through it became apparent that copy/paste and data sort could provide any info I needed.

Fairly basic Access database.
