Anyone doing this? Will any projector do? What are the best ones for this method?

Hey mazzarak,

I've been doing this mainly for demo purposes (it's a LOT easier carrying a projector than large monitor!). I've used several different projector types, anything with a 15 15 sub-d connector (ie a PC video input) thats does 1024 x 768 should work fine; however I like my Sanyo Pro Xtrax, it's has DVI, composite, component, S-Video, XGA, etc...inputs. It was relatively cheap and has pretty decent performance and is fairly rugged (one of my colleagues hooked up a LifeSize unit to a SONY 4k projector and we had 35' HD VTC - How FREAKING cool is that?

but if you just have a PC input XGA projector its only 4:3 ratio..

Hey Trapezoid,

Some projecors have an anamorphic lens that does XGA in a 16:9 format, others have electronic means of giving you psuedo 16:9; while I agree these methds might not be considered true 16:9, to the untrained eye they can do a fairly good job of imataion.

If I were going to use a projector as a permanent in-room solution I'd definately use DVI, component or anything else HD 16:9 native that worked. Normally I only use XGA when doing a demo and trying to carry the least amount of equipment possible (like using a projector already on-site if they don't have an HD monitor, etc...).

yeah.. I understand in your situation.. just trying to get to the point of the OP. I think he's looking for a fixed solution.

I haven't seen too many 16:9 projectors myself (but I haven't really been looking either)
