I have a problem with a SONY PCS-G50 unit we have installed for a customer.

The unit has been installed since about january this year, and it has consistently had the problem that it looses the ability to make or recieve calls over ISDN. The unit is fine from a cold boot, but after a while, the option to make calls over ISDN just disappears!

The customer has 6 channels set up as a trunk from his Avaya ISDN switch. This is the method he uses for all his other videoconferencing units, mainly Polycom which are fine.

I did read in a post from someone recently that if the line is not set to data and voice, only data, this may render the ISDN channels unuseable after a while. Is this something i should be checking?

Has anybody else had this experience with a Sony or any other VC unit, i would be very interested to find out.

That could happen if your ISDN cables are too long.

That could also happen if your NTs are not connected to a power supply. If the NT is not connected to a power supply then your ISDN provider provides a so called emergency power by the line itself. This feature could switch off by the provider for your lines (if all users dont use their power supplies it would be bad for the provider). Power them up.

It has nothing to do with it. If the service attribute of your lines is set to voice than all traffic will be compressed - could be bad for videoconferencing. For videoconferencing let set the service attribute to 'data' - no compression.
