Anybody ever done this?

I got a call from somebody who had a question about using VTC over ISDN on a STE (secure terminal equipment). We tried setting up a scenerio to try and answer his question. We connected our BRI to the ste and then from the 530 port to a Tandberg 2500. We configured the STE for data and when placing a call and switching to data, the STE doesn't bond to 128k. We called an Adtran 512 with the STE and it only came up as a 56k call, but when we call from the Adtran to the STE, it comes up as a 64k call. To make a long story shorter...when we switch to data, the STE shows as being in data mode, but nothing on the Tandberg. When we disconnect the call on the STE, the Tandberg makes a pop, as if there was a connection...any inputs or suggestions? Any would help at this time. Thanks.

Another thing, could there be a certain pinout for the cable that runs from the STE to the Tandberg?

I would guess (not ever seen a STE before :^) that it doesn't have the IMUX functionality, so you can only call clear channels trough it, it will not bond the channels together.

But this is just a guess. Altough you should be able to place atleast a 1 channel call trough it. (newer Tandbergs can only do 1 ch calls and need an external imux to get more isdn channel to bond)

Yeah, after doing some more research, it looks like we have to use adtrans along with the STE on both ends. Not 100% sure though, as we won't be able to test it because we lack the expansion ports needed for the STE. If anybody else has anymore more input in doing this, please by all means share your ideas :D

Tha last poster was correct. The STE cannot perform the muxing and bonding an IMUX does. Incompatable protocols involved here,
Your best bet would be an adtrans and kiv

we did some r/d utilizing a STE few years back, sometimes it would work fine at other times it would'nt work at all...

if you get it to work 100% of the time let me know.
