Anyone have any stories of upgrade issues?
I need to write a Change Management doc for the update, and was wondering if anyone had issues. I am currently running TMS 11.0 on a server, with a separate SQL DB on one of our production servers.
What is actually happening to the DB during the update?
I am assuming that only the TMS server needs rebooted after the update, not the SQL Server.
Thanks

You need SP1 on a Windows 2003 server. I've been fighting my server folks to get that done for a few months now.
As far as I know the DB doesn't get touched. I've had to reinstall v11.0 a few times and it never needed to reboot the DB so I would assume the same would hold true.

Yes, the DB doesn't get touched. Our Engineer who handles it periodically makes a separate backup of the DB. He uses two servers. When upgrading the new version is used as a test bed for a while before switching. He just copies the DB over to the new one and everything normally works hopefully. Once it is up and operational and tested ok then the same is done to the other.

I was of the understanding that the DB would have fields added to it during this update.
Likes/Dislikes with the new version?

[QUOTE=Shawn Jones]I was of the understanding that the DB would have fields added to it during this update.
I just checked the release notes and here is the scoop. quoted from teh release notes:
" Previous versions of TMS shipped with MSDE 2000 as the freely distributable SQL server that may be used for smaller installations. Starting with TMS 11.5, TMS now ships with Microsoft’s SQL 2005 Express as its freely distributable SQL server."
"During upgrades of existing installations of TMS, the existing SQL server will not be changed and will perform normally as it did prior to the upgrade. New installations of TMS that do not specify an existing SQL server will have SQL 2005 Express installed."
So, if you are upgrading then you will continue to use the old MSDE 2000. If you want the newer one then the Release notes tell you how to do it. I don't see any other changes listed on the DB.

the database always changes on upgrades. What isn't changed is the database server itself. database and database server are two seperate things
