Hi all,

I'm the Technology Director of a small US-based nonprofit that trains school districts on how to work with learning disabled children. We are currently exploring Videoconferencing as a way for our small team of consultants to work with more schools at once.

Our first potential client is overseas, where the only technology available is ISDN. We've settled on the Polycom VSX-7000 on both ends. I understand that what I need now is a Bridging solution to connect our IP-based system to their ISDN system.

Can someone explain to me how these bridging services work, how much they can cost, and whether you have any recommendations for providers?

Also, if I'm off-base in selecting the VSX-7000, then please let me know. it seemed like a reasonable solution for our needs (we want remote camera control and the ability to connect to a PC for slideshow-sharing)

Thanks in advance,
Frank

You want to dial a IP endpoint to an ISDN endpoint right? If yes you need the following things and tell me if u want to do multiple locations simultaneouly?

1.IP - ISDN Gateway
2.MCU(Multipoint Conferencing Unit)
3.Gatekeeper for Name translation,Administration of your endpoints,Call routing and Monitoring.

Setup.

Simple you have to register all endpoints (including gateway and muc) with gatekeeper.Register GAteway with prefix to dial ip endpoints directly to out side call.If you want to do DID(direct inward dialing ) register all channel numbers in gatekeeper and based on that give that numbers to your ip endpoints. This you can get call from ISDN to direct IP endpoint. One more option like if you want to give private e.164(telephone number) choose TCS4 Support Gateway which you can dial ISND number along with the e.164 number of endpoint.

If you want breif solution send me mail i will make diagram and make brief solution send to you.

The ISDN endpoint need an IP2ISDN gateway. if you deploy an ISDN gateway say old fashion radvision ISDN gateway which has a built-in NGK gatekeeper,it should work. the costs is about US$ 100-200

Or instead of purchasing abridge you can use a 3rd party like V-Span, WireOne or Global Crossing

If you are going to be doing numerous calls. Whynot purchase the Bri module + a NT for your system and order three ISDN lines. You are going to be overpaying for a gateway service (glowpoint, Wireone) and you are overkilling the solution by purchasing a gatekeeper and gateway if you only have one or two systems.

Bingo, just get ISDN on your system and you don't need to bridge. This way, you're ready to go for more clients that can connect either way.
