View Full Version : Connecting MGC50, KIV7, Adtran 512

I need to move one of my Polycom MGC-50's to our secure IP network (EASY) and also connect the MCG-50 to an ISDN circuit secured with our KIV-7. Currently, our ISDN PRI comes into an adtran atlas 550 where it is sent to may pieces of equipment. One of those pieces is an adtran 512 connected to our kiv7 using a dial isolator and 2 AB switches then onto our Polycom Viewstation EX via a polycom interface box.
In order to put the MGC-50 in service, I will remove the Viewstation EX.
Does anyone have diagrams on how to connect the MGC-50 to the KIV7 and Adtran equipment? I'd really like to eliminate as much junk as possible, such as the dial isolator and AB switches.
Thanks,

What cables do you have for the MGC, IMUX, and KIV? Do you wish to use the Adtran 512 or the Atlas 550 as the IMUX for the MGC? Why do you want to get rid of the dial isolator (I'm assuming you dial from the IMUX)?
Typical cabling:
DATA SIDE
MGC Cable to KIV RED cable to KIV RED connector. KIV BLACK connector to KIV BLACK cable to IMUX cable to IMUX.
366 SIDE
MGC to dial isolator (RED). Dial isolator (BLACK) to IMUX.

Perhaps I need to know exactly what the dial isolator does and what are the problems if I don't have one.
My current dial isolator is a piece of junk and won't hang up unless I do a manual hangup from the 512 front panel. If it is only used for non-secure, then it is trash. I DO want my MGC-50 to be able to dial the call.
Currently, I have NET2 cards in my bridge for ISDN. If those can be used. If not, I can purchase a serial card (MPI) card.
I must use a 512. The 550 is in another building.

The dial isolator allows you to dial from the MGC instead of the IMUX. It contains fiber modems that turn on when you dial, allowing the dial string to pass to the IMUX. Once the dial string is passed the fiber modems shut down so that there is no copper path bypassing the crypto, resulting in a security breach.

Did you check your ISU 512 imux config settings to ensure your dial options are set to RS-366? Also need to verify that your DTR options are set to 'ignore/idle' if the DTE initiates & terminates the call.
