First off I am new to the world of ISDN. We are having a problem, at a specific time of day (Tuesday between 10:00 -11:30) all of the calls we have in progress drop. We have watched 2 of our CSU’s (Adtran T1 CSU ACE) error out and drop, sometimes followed by the other two CSU’s. The Telco has monitored the lines and found no errors (surprise, surprise). They found some errors with how the PRI’s are configured on their switch. They are asking how they should be configured. This is the point where I could use some assistance. All of our equipment is from Tandberg, Gateway, Gatekeeper and MXP 880 codecs. Below are the settings from the Telco that they have questions about, any suggestions?

First group:
TGN: 1308 RTE INDEX: 1717

BILLING/MAIN DN: 216 615 XXXX

B CHNL TRUNK DIR: 2Way Call by Call
IF 2WAY HUNT TYPE: B) 2WB descending

GLARE: B) NO CTL - Yield (NO CTL)

# DIGITS OUTPULSED: 7
OVERFLOW TGN/TREATMENT: 0730
D TGN: 0722

Second group:
TGN: 730 RTE INDEX: 1730
CIRCUIT ID: IDZD.
BILLING/MAIN DN: 216 615 XXXX
B CHNL TRUNK DIR: 2Way Call by Call
IF 2WAY HUNT TYPE: A A) 2WF ascending
GLARE: A A) ALL CTL - STAND (ALL CTL)
# DIGITS OUTPULSED: 7
D TGN: 0732

2wf=ascending 2wb=descending

None of those options look to be related to the PRI's going down if that is what is happening. I can't believe that the telco (SBC?) doesn't have an ISDN group that can help troubleshoot.

If it's always happening on Tuesday's @1000-1130, then I'd have them check the logs to see if there's some type of automated diagnostic that's sheduled to run. Don't let them blow smoke and say all is well if this is a recurring problem. Good luck and let us know what the cause is and how it was fixed.

One of the Sr. Engineers in our company has told us to have the telco to set our PRI's to these settings;

2nd trunk-group (TGN 0730) to be the same as 1st trunk-group. Specifically, there are two parameters in TGN 0730 need to be changed:
IF 2WAY HUNT TYPE should be B, 2WB descending. It is set to A right now.
GLARE should be set to B, NO CTL – Yield. It is set to A right now.

We have also seen this error on the gateway when the PRI's drop,

“Layer 2 Down” was PRI Status for PRI 1 and PRI 2 on our Gateway

The Telco has changed the PRI settings based on the engineers reccomendation. Let's see if that helps!

The Telco changes didn't work. I am changing the OS to 5.2 on my endpoints and 3.2 on my gateways. Working for the Government we have to go through a paperwork drill to make changes. Hopefully the changes will make a difference.

The PRI's have been running clean for the past couple of days. Out of the last 6 days we only show errors on the Adtran once (Sat 1:30 P.M.). We are still waiting to upgrade to 5.2 so hopefully the Telco has found the issue.

So what was the issue or is it PFM? :grin:
