We are going to use on Leased Line and ISDN between two locations in India and same time we are going to share data while in a conference.

I believe the VSX7800 only allows for one H.320 interface (ISDN/V.35) at a time. To switch between the you need to physically replace the interface card in the unit. Data sharing I assume you mean H.239, the VSX also has another external box to do this.

The TANDBERG 990 comes in either V.35 or ISDN, you cannot have both in the same device. The data sharing or H.239 is integrated into the settop box. If you want TANDBERG and have the need for both ISDN and V.35 at the same time, you should look at the 6000 MXP. All interfaces are integrated in the box.

Both devices support multisite if you need it, but only the TANDBERG supports H.264 in multisite (VSX only supports H.263).

Both support enryption if that is important

Both support H.239 for data sharing

If you care about HD: The TANDBERG 990 can receive HD, the VSX7800 cannot. If you want to transmit HD as well, I suggest looking at the Edge 95 (if you do not need ISDN and V.35 at the same time) or the 6000 MXP.

If you need more, let me know.

Tandberg MXP line is way more powerful than Polycom VSX one.

H.264 video quality is so better comapred to Polycom ones that the price difference between the two is simply justified.

I would, anyhow ... go for a Tandberg Edge 85 or 95

First u find out the service support whether polycom support is good or tandberg.

I am working on polycom products past two years. Polycom support is good but expensive. I have no idea abt tandberg.

U will get the H.264 supports in polycom VSX 8000 series and above models only.

Feature wise Tandberg is good.

As a long term user working with some Tandberg 990 MXP´s and also with VSX 7000 systems on H.323 and H.320 basis I would recommend to you to use Tandberg, the web-interface is more structured and quick to use, the telnet interface offers you a bunch of options to remote handle the systems, the integration to network infrastructure such as using TMS and SNMP is much better solved in the Tandberg world. Firmware upgrades in the Tandberg world are easy to apply even over ISDN. If you have to handle the systems remotely go for Tandberg. DuoVideo is much more convenient to handle on Tandberg compared to Polycoms.
If you need further information, let me know.

We Are using Tandberg MXP-990, 6000, MPS 200 with TMS.

We are now looking for more equipment that will specifically use for Education sector on IP.

Like
Tandberg Edge 95, Codian 45xx, MSE 8000, Content Server etc
Polycom HDX series, MGC 100, RSS etc.
Some Aethra models too

I need your suggestion specially for those who are using both platforms to specify the main points for selection the MCU, CODECS, Streaming servers that will make me easier to select the equipment among theses vendors.

send me your comments to <noman@iamgood.in> or post here..

Hi ,

We are into vc system rentals and have all polycoms so far. I think they have better service support than Tandberg. Polycom has their own set up in mumbai but i think tandberg does not have any such set up here. The tandberg systems are great no doubt but i think service is equally important as all the vc systems are finally electronic equipments and can have probelms from very early stage too.

I am currently using 6 Codian 42xx series MCUs and absolutley swear by them. They are easy to configure and manage and do a wonderful job. The same goes for the Tandberg Content Server. Easy to configure, manage and use. Excellent results every time.
