I have been tearing my hair out trying to decide what product to choose which is ideal for my company.
Are requirments are as follows:
-Two small confernce rooms with max of 6 people.
-Other users to join the conference from there own PC.(initially it will be 1 conference room and one remote user(Boss))
-Basic application sharing
Video/voice would go over IP and connection for all sites is 100mb fibre optic (actual speeds of about 30mb).
Since the rooms are small ideally we want a wall mounted monitor (LG M3701C ) connected to one older notebook PC. This monitor will be used for video conferencing and for showing demo DVDs and so on but will not be used as a TV..
Also most of the hardware solutions dont offer camera that mount on top of the monitor and likewise mics..as our conference room will not be used solely for that purpose.. So the polycom speaker that sits on the desk is not very suitable..unless we can fix it to the ceiling..
So so far I have looked at Polycom, Marratech, Alicestreet, Dim Dim and skype.. The budget would be around a few thousand dollars only adn I really dont want a high end solution as the company is very small and are not very tech savy but also dont want tech support problems endlessly..
Polycom from what I see is expensive and also not really suitable for a non permant conference room as stated above.
Marratech and Alicestreet look interesting but are also pretty pricy for software based solutions.
Dim Dim is fine so far but only allows for 1 way video conferencing.
Skype would be fine except no application sharing and also only 1 to 1 video without 3rd party apps..
Also heard about office communications server 2007 which is promising alot...
At the moment we are using one room with a LCD monitor and Logitect mic/cam and using skype so the Boss can participate in meetings..
Any help would be greatly appreciated
