Hi,

I had a issue with the Tandberg 8000MXP Profile that one of the monitor going to sleep and wouldn't wake up when i pressed anything on the Tandberg remote. The sleeping monitor need to be woken up manually using the plasma remote control. I am running F5.3 but don't know whether is Tandberg firmware, codec or plasma issues. Hope some GURU can give me some hints. Thanks.

Sounds like the monitor has a sleep timer set. Have you gone through its menu options?

I have similar CODEC/display sleep issues:
We have LG 42" plasmas that gives us two choices using the settings in the options - no sleep, adding hours of use to the display or sleep after no signal for 10 minutes but not power up again when the signal returns. The user must then turn on the display manually. The display is listed as a commercial set instead of residential. I'm not impressed.

We also have 70" Sony rear projections that will not go to sleep at all when a signal is removed and puts "Input 7" on the screen until the signal returns or the set is turned off. Putting the CODEC and display on the same power switch is a problem as well, turning off that display without proper cooldown reduces the life of those expensive lamps considerably.

We have older Hitachi 4:3 plasmas (5 year) that power save when the CODEC sleeps (no VGA video signal) and power up when the CODEC wakes up again.

Differences in CODECs cause problems too. The Polycom CODECs we have can be configured for no signal or black screen output in sleep mode. The Tandberg MXPs we have(3.0 to 6.2) do not have any screen saver configuration that deals with the DVI video output during sleep mode that I can find.

If at all possible, try out a display before you buy to see if a display will fit into your applications environment. There are settings that are never shown in the manual. An example: What happens to the display if it is on and power goes out. Does the display remain off? Power up? Resume last state? Can you change the behavior?

Kekfoong,
I agree with Joe, check the settings on the plasma display. You may need to get into a service/hidden menu to change certain settings though, depending on your display.

Huh... it's in all TANDBERG MXPs as default... as long as the monitor handles it, then it will work with MXP Tandbergs... Has been there since F1.0 SW!!

Tandberg does not allow you to specify no signal or blank screen out as options that I can find. Polycom does.

Tandberg:
Composite/S-Vid sleep = black screen
DVI/VGA = no signal

If I am missing something, please let me know where that can be changed on the DVI output to be a black screen on sleep instead of no signal.

Ohh.. sorry... No I don't think you can blank the S-video or Composite on a TANDBERG. It's really a shame!!

BUT on DVI it's default to BLANK the screeen, and I'm not sure you can turn it off, if you have a monitor capable of going into sleep mode, the monitor will shut it self off.

I see no need for the option to just send a black-image to the monitor, as Polycom does by default. Which purpose is that good for?

The DVI on our MXPs is sending no signal instead of the black screen. The Sony 70" displays do not sleep or show a plain black screen when signal is lost, "Input 7" is displayed instead. If the Tandberg or Sony was changeable, this wouldn't be an issue, but neither are that I can find. The "secret" service menu in the Sony has hundreds of options and I have yet to find a manual that explains any of those cryptic options.
