Hi All; Happy New Year!

Anybody out there using Tandberg MOVI?
If so does it work well? Do you Like it?

Cheers

We're deploying it, and think it's brilliant. Just about to roll it out to schools in the UK, along with Tandberg VCS and integrating it into an H.323 based dial plan. It's a great solution, our customers love the fact that they only pay for the concurrent calls, not for the number of client installations.

Thanks Glen; Nice to hear you like it, it seems like a pretty innovative product.

We are considering it for healthcare use. Its down to either MOVI, Polycom PVX, or MS Office Communicator. What model of web cam did you decide on? Or are you just letting the users use what ever they happen to have?
Did you find any one model of webcam really stood out quality wise?

No problem. We deployed it with the Logitech Quickcam Pro4000 which we've found to be really quite good for the price. I've seen it working with other cameras, but didn't really take much notice of make / model.

What sort of healthcare application were you considering it for?

We are looking at some tele home care applications. Also interested in desktop videoconferencing for office stuff.

I had a hunch it would be home care. Just be aware then that if your home patients have PC's behind routers (a typical scenario), then you may have connectivity issues with all the options you are looking at.

None of the applications you are looking at currently have any inbuilt firewall traversal. I've heard a vicious rumour that Polycom are planning H.460 for PVX (or its successor) at some point in the future, but this is hazy. Tandberg have already stated that inbuilt firewall traversal in MOVI is coming in Version 2. I expect though that you will need the SIP equivalent of an H.323 border controller for this, most likely VCS Expressway. I'd suggest you contact Tandberg or Polycom and explain what you're trying to achieve. In my humble opinion, Tandberg are leading the field in this respect though.

Thanks Glen for the heads up on the traversal issues.
Have you run MOVI over the public internet at all? That is what is worrying me. No QoS is an issue as well.

Also keep in mind that there is no way to secure MOVI other than restricting access. That is if you throw it on the public network, anyone can jump on it and use it.

I found it shocking.

You can also consider Mirial Softphone, a desktop client supporting HD 720p video calls. It works fine both SIP and H323, you can download a 30-day evaluation from their site www.mirial.com

SCOPIA Desktop from RADVISION has a built in firewall traversal. It also supports remote access for video, audio and H.239 presentation through a web client.

Does it have firewall traversal, either STUN / TURN or preferably H.460? Maybe you could write a review for us?
